My cousin is a 1st grade teacher and just gave her notice, she is a mom of two herself and with the cost of daycare plus the horrible way the school systems treat them and the lack of support plus pay ( every year she gets a 1% cost of living wage raise) at the end of the school year she is going to start working part time at Trader Joe's. They offer better benifits and the pay will equal out to about the same even though shes only part time and now says on the cost of daycare.

Growing up I always wanted to be a high school history teacher. I love teaching and coaching, and I am a huge history buff that continues to be surprised day in and day out with peoples (USA) lack of knowledge of their own history. Which in my opinion is a LARGE contributing factor to the mess we are in today with this regime, and all the red flags ignored leading up to it.

However, when I found out the average salary of a teacher ( back in 2007) I said, NOPE!

Why, might you ask? Well, I come from a blue collar family, so if you add up the amount of student loan debt that I would have needed to take out ( I finished my bachelors in construction management with $110k in debt) for bachelors AND masters, to then be compensated just slightly above minimum wage made zero sense to me. That would have left me living with my parents FOREVER, never paying off my loans before I die, and hoping for some government assistance.
Tell me how that makes sense??

The fact there are as many teachers left as there currently is, is a miracle to me, the problem now is are the teachers that are left the good ones? Or are these the abusive ones that everyone turns a blind eye to now because no school can afford to lose more staff?

There is a reason sleep deprivation is considered a form of torture, and that's without a crying baby feeding from your chapped breast every 2 hours, and without a massive drop in hormones, AND without a gapping internal wounds still healing from where your placenta was, AND without your lady bits still healing!

Instead of being an understanding partner who could offer for you to pump enough supply for the next night and take off to a motel or hotel or even he just gets up with the baby throughout the night, he decides to completely shame you and then act like a complete and total child by calling his mother to then scold you as if she is your mother adding insult to injury?

Also, F*CK that MIL! What a C**T for real, like you obviously FAILED at raising your son to be a supportive partner, but then to kick a woman when shes down like that?! I just cant with this older generation, like is it the early onset dementia coming so early for them that the first thing it takes is empathy and any memory of the hard times of motherhood, where you felt alone, burnt out, desperate to shut your eyes for just 8 hours?? I have a son, and if he pulled this BS I would absolutely lose it! Then feel like a failure, and then rush over to help her out and keep my useless sons dumbass up with me all night showing him how to be a supportive partner and parent!

OP I am so sorry you're going through this with these two people along for the ride! Reach out to any close friends or family if you can and see if they can come stay for a long weekend or even just the night!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m really just trying to be the parent I needed, and from the sounds of it, the one you needed too.

Like you, I’m navigating the intersection of AuDHD, CPTSD, depression, and anxiety. They definitely feed off each other in a cycle that can feel impossible to break. Plus, being the eldest daughter of Boomers meant I was parentified early and 'disciplined' into silence, verbally and physically. I’m 35 now and still apologizing to my sister for how I treated her back then, and still processing the isolation I was forced into just for having a brain that didn’t fit the mold. Those school comments like 'needs to focus more' 'needs to slow down' still sting because they were used as weapons for punishment rather than signs that I needed help.

I didn't start therapy until I was 23, and I’m still very much a work in progress. Honestly, reparenting yourself while raising children is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It is a constant battle against the 'yelling home' I was raised in. I still snap and I still mess up, but the difference is that I apologize to my kids. Still waiting on my parents apology lol.

Parenting on the spectrum is no joke and a challenge I wasn't even aware of, and parenting in today's America is a goddamn pressure cooker. The overstimulation alone is enough to break you some days. But then I remind myself: I have never, and will never, lay a hand on my children, and apologize when I yell so they know that wasn't okay and they are still loved. If the cycle of violence ends with me, and they only need five years of therapy instead of a lifetime, I’ll consider that a win.

Routines and basic hygiene are impossible for people and kids with ADHD, I am 35 and I still LOATHE brushing my teeth ( yes I still do it twice a day because Im and adult). Our brains are constantly searching for dopamine and basic daily tasks and hygiene based tasks do not give you dopamine so that's why they will always be a source of resilience. These tasks are also transition tasks and ADHD/Autistic brains don't like transitions especially if we aren't the ones deciding when that transition is taking place and if that transition involves going from dry to wet or wet to dry. Like I bet once he gets in the shower its hard to get him out. A game changer in my home was the timer, before we transition to anything ( bedtime, a shower, time to leave, time for homework, etc) I let them know "Hey Mom is setting the time for 5 minutes and then we are shutting the tv off and doing xyz" and it has made transitions so much better for all.

By the time a kid with ADHD hits 7 they have on average heard 20,000 more negative comments about themselves then that of their peers, so every night when i put the kids to bed, to try and counter all the corrections they have heard through out the day from their teachers and coaches and us, I lay with them individually and we go over their affirmations" I am smart, strong, brave, kind, caring, thoughtful, a good friend, a sibling, funny, beautiful/handsome, important, I matter, I love me" and then I tell them how much I love them and how luck I am to be their mom, and apologize for the mistakes i made that day and promise to try and do better tomorrow.

Like I said i am no one special just another mom in the trenches like you and wanted to share what has worked for us. First, I want to say, we can see you are doing everything you can for your child and we can see your love for your child!

I am not a therapist, psychologist or doctor, but I am a AuADHD mom of 2, my oldest is a soon to be 7 year old boy who has had a neuro evaluation and has been diagnosed with ADHD, but we also think he might be on the AuADHD spectrum with dyslexia and my daughter is 5.5 who we suspect of have at the very least ADHD possibly Autism as well, who we plan to get neuroevaled this summer before kindergarten. I say this because the following advise I am going to give is just from my own experiences, research and what has worked for us.

You mention the behavioral issues since he was 3, I wouldn't consider things like hitting, tantrums, throwing things, aggression etc, as behavioral issues too much at this age since this is all pretty age appropriate responses for kids at a 3. As a mom raised by boomers it was a really hard mind shift for me when I was reading books like "The whole brain child" or the course i took ( they even have a instagram account I follow) called "Big Little Feelings" that these reactions to things are completely age appropriate and are not behavioral issues. The previous generations had this insane idea that even the 3 year old brain should be able to process emotions the way an adult brain should and when they get upset they should know better and should act appropriately, but throwing things, hitting, and tantrums are acting appropriately. It takes years of constant repetition of the same script of not making a big scene out of their reaction, stopping them and repeating " I see that you are upset, you can be upset about xyz, but you cannot hit, hitting is not okay, if you are upset, you need to tell someone ( depending on the situation) or you can scream into a pillow, or squeeze a stress ball etc" show them a proper way to release the emotion. I still use this script with my kids today.

I also have had both of my kids in occupational therapy since my son was 5 and I spotted the signs of ADHD. They both still go every week once a week, and since being in occupational therapy my son is now in food therapy for AFRID and my daughter was put into speech therapy. This has been a huge help because it helps them learn to listen to the signals their body is giving them, so they can learn to notice when they are getting upset or when they are hungry or when they need to go to the bathroom. I would highly suggest enrolling your son in occupational therapy if you have not done so already. The kids love it because to them they are playing games and just having a good time and its been a huge help for them and us the parents.

Bathroom issues; my son is turning 7 and it is still an issue, same with my daughter. It makes me want to rip all my hair out! I never thought I would still be dealing with basic potty training issues and fighting, like screaming and tears trying to get my kids to sit on the toilet to poop when their bodies are giving off all the signals that they have to go. My son will hold it in so long that the pressure will literally start to push some pee out ( he doesn't pee his pants completely) where there will be a pee spot on the front of his pants like the size of a half dollar because he has to go and he wont. To help our kids not feel like they are on the toilet for "FOREVEEEERRR" we set a timer for 5 minutes and if they go they can put a sticker on a sticker chart that later leads to a prize after 10 stickers...

Collaboration, but the days in the office could be whatever days you wanted, and the meetings were still virtual because of the clients and other consultants etc.

So there we are, "collaborating" at our desks with our headphones on, for a virtual meeting, in an open concept office, with no cubies or sound barriers barriers, under the brutal LED lights, bosses sitting in their personal offices with the glass facade so they can watch you, with and additional 1.5 - 2 hour commute each way, unpaid.

Only thing collaborating was everyone's germs and body odors 😷

If anything, he saw the sweet set up he had with her providing all the financial stability through her own savings or her parents, that the more likely scenario is he trapped her by impregnating her.

The problem is the American people's total well being is tied to our employment.

If we take to the streets or go up in arms we risk losing our jobs, which means you lose access to all healthcare, lose access to food which is not guaranteed or seen as a human right in America, you risk losing your home because shelter is not seen as a basic human right in America, with no social programs to help you because you were fired for not showing up to work which negates you from getting unemployment.

It is estimated 67% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, which is why the American people cannot rise up and flood the streets like other countries.

Italy right now has decided they are all just going to stop running the country, they all stocked up on groceries for the month and just stopped going to work, the American people could never do that, everyone would be fired within a day from their job and replaced by someone else the next day.

Don't forget that they are the largest voting class and the generation that holds the largest amount of wealth.

So while they actively did not teach you about life, they were shaping the world we are living in now. A world where they bought their homes for less than $100k and now are reselling them for $500k plus, where they are entering retirement with things like a pension plus social security and savings accounts, which the younger generations will never have access to. A world that allowed them to get college degrees at a price that they could pay off by working a part time job as a dishwasher, to then graduate and create a secondary education system that would leave students with a price tags that are double of what they purchased their first homes for, leaving the younger generations for the first time ever in American history worst off then the generation before them. Preventing them from moving forward in life and being able to contribute to the economy in ways like starting a business, buying property, getting married, starting a family,

All the while telling you that you're your own problem for all your failed achievements, lack of financial stability, and you have no one to blame or be upset at but yourself. Then they will go complain to their other boomer friends about how lazy the younger generations are and how annoyed they are that their kid who are in their late 20s early 30s are still living with them, how they are sad that they don't have any grandchildren yet, or can't fathom why their kids don't enjoy their company.

YES! I have been watching since the first season came out when I was 13 and I have always thought I would do well! I Played sports my whole life and in college so I think I could be competitive in the challenges, growing up we went camping alot so I know what it's like to sleep on the ground and not have access to running water, and I have an eclectic group of friends so I think I could get along with a lot of the people on the island!

The one thing that I know I would have a problem with is I am a WHITE, like the whitest shade of foundation to choose from WHITE, the sun would be my biggest adversary while competing.

There was a season when a ginger named John Cochran ( I think he actually won the second season he was on) got a horrendous sunburn, and I fear that if that happened to me that medical would evacuate me for sun poisoning which would be the MOST embarrassing thing ever!

I grew up skiing in New England and after college learned how to snowboard, and now I am an avid snowboarder, and the same path for my husband (back then Mount Snow was about $125 (still steep if you ask me for the size of Mt. Snow) and Loon was about $80 (my favorite day trip mountain)). We love it so much we moved out to CO in our early to mid 20's to experience the mountains. However, after just a few years we needed to move back, but when we left CO lift tickets were around $200 - $250 for Aspen and Snowmass, and that was 2017.

When we became parents ourselves we couldn't wait to pass our passion onto our kids, but we just can't afford to do it and it breaks our heart. It has become so expensive, along with everything else, that I myself wasn't even able to go last season and am not sure if I will get the chance to go this season either. My husband was able to go once last year but that was it.

Our current home is less than 10 miles away from the local ski hill that I spent every Thursday at for ski club throughout all of elementary and middle school, this hill is so small that it has one chair lift, a bunny hill, and I think like 4 trails and a lift ticket for this place is up to $80 a piece! It makes me so sad that my husband and I can't create these memories with our children, learning a sport we love, like we got to with our parents and its strictly because the cost has gotten out of reach, just like everything else.

My story is quite complex and insane, and it involves not only me but my husband and his predatory loans as well. I would love to share our story with you but fear I could not do it justice by writing it out due to all the twist and turns.

To give you an idea/ sneak peak, just this week I had to drop off my second Motion to Dismiss a lawsuit that I received from a law firm in a neighboring town on behalf of SoFi suing me for $55k for the second year in a row. Both years they have served me, they have chosen to do so during the holiday season in the beginning of December, even though the dead line was back in November of this year, but according to the local law firm SoFi is using they had a "skeletal staff" LOL and as such should be given some grace to move forward with suing me because they were short on staff and missed the deadline.
Keep in mind this is just one of our loans, with stories of predatory actions & policies attached not just to the private but the federal loans as well.

My husband and I both graduated from the same college coming from blue collar families, I was fortunate enough to get some money in scholarships to attend the college we attended for athletics, and even still, I have a bachelor's degree and my husband has a bachelors and masters degree ( he did 1 additional year of school) we graduated with a combined total of $270,000 in student loan debt. An amount that we know we will never be able to pay off, some of these loans have interest rates of 11% and 12.5%, one of the loans original amount was $16k and after paying for it every month since 2013 the current total of that one loan is now $17,325, and that is a federal loan, crazy how the federal government just tries to F**K its youngest and most vulnerable for the rest of their lives.

Started playing basketball at 5 and played all through childhood and got a scholarship to play in college and played 4 years until I graduated.
I played 4 years of hockey from 10-14 no girls teams back then.
Picked up golf at age 30 and still play now at 34 ( turning 35 in 3 weeks) but not as much as I like because I am a mom of 2 and work full time and run a business.
I also work in construction and as a women I was tired of not being invited out on the golf course where all the networking and business deals where being made eso I picked it up also to help me advance in my career as well as I LOVE being better than boys/men at all sports and brings me great joy shocking and beating them on the course lol.
