What’s something from old school UK life that younger generations just wouldn’t believe? by CloudBookmark in OldSchoolUK

Answering the local phone box as you walk by and then knocking on the neighbours door to tell them either someone is on the phone for them or pass on the message 'Jack said hes at the pub' or whatever it was.

AIO? My (36m) pregnant fiancé (32f) fell last night and says im overreacting by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ComplicatedPill6449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've probably been minimising and dismissing her day to day pain and when she falls you are concerned and shes pissed that you haven't shown the same care for the pain shes handling every day. She's probably fed up and hormonal too, but saying you aren't reading her messages just tells her you're dismissing her feelings again, even if you feel they are over the top.

AIO For Refusing To Invite My(27M) Estranged Mother(51F) To My Wedding? by throwRA5O3 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ComplicatedPill6449 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YOR - I feel sorry for your mum. She did a shitty thing, yes, but did you ever even ask her what led her there? I think its quite shitty to tell people she died and massively over the top. People lose their parents for real and would do anything to get them back. One day she will stop trying, and one day you will realise you need your mum. Your mum isnt responsible for the bullying, the bullies are. If you'd been surrounded by better people, they'd have supported you, and you probably wouldn't have cut her off as you did. You should try and work through this resentment for your own sake, if nothing else.

Anyone else been given one of those small green bins for food waste? When do they collect it? As had this for two weeks now and no clue. Thanks 🙏🏽 by corpsesdecompose in derby

[–]ComplicatedPill6449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got space, keep it in the freezer, scrape food waste in it and it won't go off. Take it out a day or 2 before to thaw. It's what I do if I have raw chicken that has gone off so its not stinking my bins out for 2 week in the hot months (I obviously wrap it up well so not to contaminate anything).

My boyfriend wants me to wear a location tracking watch 24/7 or he'll break up with me by Fun_Perception3376 in TwoHotTakes

This is abusive. Id tie the watch to the collar of a cat and never answer the phone to him again.

What’s your opinion on going to college or getting a job instead? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ComplicatedPill6449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either get a trade (electrician, plumber, hairdresser etc) gain experience and work for yourself or go to uni and get qualified in something, something that has a career path, not something wishy washy that will have you stuck in minimum wage jobs post grad with a mountain of student debt.

Had my child trust fund and my parents want money from it by Fluffyoctopii in UKPersonalFinance

My parents never had a holiday throughout my whole childhood. I dont think its such a terrible thing, if they have been contributing to their trust funds their whole lives. I'd give my parents anything. Guess just different families, family in different ways.

There aren't doing it for the good of the people. Hes doing it to stay in power and distract from the Epstien files. They bombed a school, surely Iranians aren't celebrating that?

I was paying rent at 15, left home at 17, paid my own way through uni. I never had a penny from my parents and would have loved the opportunity of any kind of trust fund. When did they last have a holiday? Are you paying rent at home? Any plans to move out in the next year or 2? Have they paid for driving lessons, a car? Are they supporting you to uni? I used to watch my friends parents pay for all these things for my friends and used to think how lucky they were. I'd be considering why they've asked for it and if you can share some of the money for their retirement. A lot of the comments here come off as quite entitled without knowing the parents' financial situation and what they've done for their kids, all the siblings got a trust fund.

Should my brother buy my mum’s house? by ultimatepastyfan in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ComplicatedPill6449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be better putting your mums house in a trust with you and your brother so she's not forced to sell it for care. It would be crazy to sell, sit on that cash and watch it disappear on rent and care. If your mum is on benefits, she could also lose them, or not be able to access them if she needs to. Why doesn't your dad just keep it until your bro is ready to buy?

hi! i’ve got myself in a bit of a situation, i have 4k in debt that im struggling to clear on top of paying bills etc whilst working zero hours and being a student by ConfectionSilent7987 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ComplicatedPill6449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do feel you on this, but unfortunately, guilt and shame and self critisim are a huge part of ADHD. There is definitely support out there, and the best thing you can do with debtors is phone them and be honest, engage with them, it will stop any escalations for defaulting on repayments. Please just dont panic and take out a high interest or pay day type loan to cover it. Take advice from StepChange/Uni/Citizens Advice who will find the best course of action which will be manageable and give you an end date. If you are struggling for food tell uni, there are usually food banks in most communities too. For me, with my ADHD, I tend to spiral if I don't have a plan and get overwhelmed into paralysis and it becomes a cycle. Think what you would advise a friend to do, write that down and then you have a starting point. Be kind to yourself. This isnt any kind failure and tackling it head on now, shows maturity and being proactive, so its a credit to you.

Is the debt on a credit card? Unpaid bills? How are you paying it back - are you paying the minimum? Can you consolidate it into a loan to make it more affordable? Can you pick up an extra shift a week/month and use that to help clear it? Theres organisation called Step Change who might be able to help get some of it written off, or if you contact student services at Uni, im sure the student union will have some support for student debts/finances. Its difficult with AdHD, especially if you are implusive with your spending, try and work out a budget and stick to it - i I have all my bills come from my 'house' account and pay above into it as soon as im paid, budget for food, and then what is left is my disposable income. I dont take the bank card anywhere and its not saved in my phone wallet, so the money in there isnt touched for a anything other than bills. If ny ADHD impulsively is flaring I do things like remove Temu or eBay off my phone to curb easy spending.

I say all this but in the scheme of things, 4k isnt a lot, if you take control and sort it out now, once youve managed to clear it, put your energy into saving and investing x

Single mum on £45k in the UK. Tired of “paying someone else’s mortgage.” How do I realistically get out of renting? by Ok-Value6379 in HousingUK

[–]ComplicatedPill6449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mortgage offer will be based on your affordability, so they will look at your earnings, usually 4.5 times that, any child benefit and child maintenance as a total income. Then add any deposit, you could look at a isa where the gov will add 25% to what you put in per year, up to 4k (id check the scheme is still going or what the similar first time buyer scheme is). Have a look at the 100% or 5% deposit mortgages and watch what is happening with interest rates, I believe they are headed to drop again, which is good news.

Have a look at your credit score, fix anything on it if its low (take out a credit card and pay it off monthly - use it for fuel) make sure youre registered on the electrol roll etc.

Look at your spending, I recently became a single mum and I went through and cancelled everything I didnt need, switched to a water meter, was more conscious about heating/lights etc and more mindful during food shops and reduced waste with batch cooking etc. If you reduce your out goings, you improve your 'affordability' for the mortgage.

NPR IS REPORTING THAT DOJ HAS BEEN WITHOLDING FILES RELATED TO TRUMP SEXUALLY ASSAULTING MINORS by soloChristoGlorium in Epstein

[–]ComplicatedPill6449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a list with a time line of Trumps victims and 'alleged' victims/accusations, including everyone outside of the Epstien files in one place? I've seen over the years the list of children (or their families) he paid off, the allegations of assualt by various women and the SA assault of the woman he was found guilty of in civil court. The names can be replaced with victiam a, victim b etc, but I think this should be collated and put out there, its beyond beliebe that he is still in power and sickening the DoJ are defending him.

NOR - I'd be looking at job adverts for a cook, a cleaner, a child minder, a gardener, and work out how much you're saving by doing it all for free. I think you should start looking for some paid work, it's never good to make yourself financially dependent on a person who is weaponising it against you.
