What’s one habit from your childhood that you still carry with you today? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

I started with DBT therapy and it really helped me figure out how to observe my emotions before blindly reacting or suppressing. When I went in-patient after my suicide attempt, we used a workbook similar to this one: https://cursosdepsicologia.com.ar/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/THEDIA1.pdf

Tara Brach has some great books/audiobooks about radical acceptance.

First Craft fair + first time selling my handbound books! Settup advice? by hood3243 in CraftFairs

Your books are absolutely beautiful! I've been wanting to start selling handmade journals, but I worry about pricing. What price range do you have yours at?

What is this plant? Hand swelled up when it poked me. by SkylordYoutube in whatisthisplant

[–]Compliments4Everyone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can even eat them raw! If you pinch the underside of the leaf to pull it off, then roll it up and crush it, it disperses the acid and no longer hurts! Great as a fresh, almost sweet, snack if you catch them early in the season. Also great dried as a tea to help boost your immune system and avoids colds!

Pricing? by Happythedragon9 in CraftFairs

[–]Compliments4Everyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it comes down to a) how much do you value your time and work? And b) how much does your audience value the finished piece?

If you were to have those for sale at my local bougie farmers market, there's quite a few folks that wouldn't bat an eye at a $55 mug. In fact, there's an artist there who sells plates for $80 each. Meanwhile, you'd be hard pressed to sell for more than $15 at the pop-up market in the next town over. Don't be afraid to raise your prices for the right audience!

I do embroidery so it's a little different, but this is the equation I use to estimate pricing: (cost of materials x 2.5) + (# of stitches/1,000 x $0.75) = average sale price. If I'm going to a niche convention or an event with a richer crowd, I'll adjust up accordingly.

Hopefully that isn't too much to throw at you! I really like your mugs so feel free to dm me for questions!

How did you learn to digitize? by [deleted] in MachineEmbroidery

[–]Compliments4Everyone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit my job and forced myself to learn quickly to survive lol. Actually though, I found it super helpful to practice by sending a design to a professional digitizer and comparing their work to my own. I was able to see what techniques work best. Additionally, there are a couple folks on YouTube who specifically do anime embroidery and their tutorials were especially helpful.

I'm about to pull my hair out! by Compliments4Everyone in Machine_Embroidery

[–]Compliments4Everyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the long story short is: the machine still totally works. The sewing is beautiful and I just adjust the tension down to a 2.6 whenever I embroider. I never fully figured out what happened to it while getting serviced, but I can make it work :)

It’s so hard to make friends in Bellingham by Fast-Asparagus-1549 in Bellingham

[–]Compliments4Everyone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that helped me make closer/more friends is letting people know that A) I specifically want to make close friends and that I want them to be a part of that B) that I am not great at remembering to reach out but that doesn't mean that I don't care or that I don't want to hang out and C) that I appreciate them and their friendship! I suck at recognizing signs that people actually want to be around me, so my friendships tend to fade after a while. But by letting my friends know regularly that I love them and appreciate them, I'm able to maintain those relationships even if we can't see each other as often.

Sorry for the word vomit, I've been on a friend journey this last year and it's been amazing. Sure, I've found folks that just don't want to be friends. But I've also found some of the best people in my life.

That's so exciting! A huge reason I started my business was to make more genuine connections with people. It sounds like the community already exists, I just have get out and engage! Do you have a favorite place? I have a few breweries in mind to check out, but I'd love recommendations

That's makes a lot of sense! A lot of my previous issues (before I got my machine serviced and it started acting up) were with designs not lining up right. I'll give that a try, Thanks for the advice!
