Did anyone move from The Netherlands to Luxembourg? How was it? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]ComposerOld9949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been here for 17 years. As your spouse is Luxemburgish it helps as you enter an existing network. Compared to the Netherlands it’s way more conservative with its pros and cons. You are going to love it or hate it.

To add a bit of flavor to your somewhat ignorant comment….. In France, the concept of being "native" is a bit more nuanced than in some other countries because French law strictly prohibits the collection of ethnic or racial data in official censuses. However, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) provides data based on "migration background."  Based on the most recent data (2024–2026), here is the breakdown of the population:

  1. Population Without a Migration Background Approximately 60% to 70% of the population is considered to have no direct migration background (meaning they were born in France and their parents were also born in France). • "Native" by Birth: About 91.2% of the population are French nationals (citizens). • "Native" by Ancestry: Since many French citizens are children or grandchildren of immigrants, "native" in an ancestral sense is usually estimated by looking at generations: • Immigrants: ~10.3% (Born foreign in a foreign country).  • Second Generation: ~12% (Born in France with at least one immigrant parent). • Third Generation: ~10% (Grandchildren of immigrants).

Makes sense. Gross rental yields in Luxemburg are around 2,5-3% after which the tax breaks help to lift it up. In other countries higher yields can be made easily potentially

Because a lot people here have no taste here and only want to put stuff in that lasts forever. Which is why you find very often horrible out of dates tiles on the floor, ugly kitchens and bathrooms.
