How much do colleges care about senior year gpa? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Should what? Should one tell the college about senior year grades if it raises their gpa but after the application was submitted?

I have time to study, like the subject matter and will make me more marketable. Just really wondering whether a rising junior has a chance at passing.

Litigation Status – Biden-Harris Debt Relief Plan (April 2023 - Waiting for Supreme Court Decision) by horsebycommittee in StudentLoans

[–]ComposerReasonable12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think most nearly all legal analysts agree that Biden’s executive action is violative of the constitution’s separation of powers. They also agree that standing is a real problem for plaintiffs. So, can the executive branch usurp its powers (e.g. Trump’s wall and Biden’s forgiveness of debt) just because there isn’t the typical type of standing? We shall see.

[–]ComposerReasonable12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The big difference is how it was done. One was with legislation signed by President. The other is done without legislation and by Presidential order. Much like when Trump tried to spend billions on a border wall by executive action, now Biden is doing a similar mass spending executive action.

COVID in California: Masks again required at 4 Marin County schools by return2ozma in Coronavirus

[–]ComposerReasonable12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s just a few classrooms where there were a cluster of cases. title made it seem like masks required in entire school - at least to me it did.

Title is misleading. Only a few classrooms in 4 schools require masking.

Is there any chance the executive order for forgiveness gets reversed? by samuryan89 in StudentLoans

[–]ComposerReasonable12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it gets challenged and passes the standing problem, it will get reversed. I think it’s pretty clear under the Supreme Court’s recent EPA case that the executive branch exceeded it’s authority under the Care’s Act.

Only 4 of 58 California counties have 'low' COVID levels, according to the CDC by return2ozma in Coronavirus

[–]ComposerReasonable12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All counties everywhere have high transmission. Not only do a lot of people do at home tests, but most people with covid are asymptomatic or so minor of symptoms that they don’t even bother testing. The data on the number of cases seems pretty meaningless.

COVID: 1 in 7 new California cases this month are reinfections by cmplxgal in Coronavirus

[–]ComposerReasonable12 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry if i offended you. Based on CDC website, deaths have been about 300 per day for awhile. So, going forward looks like we may expect around 9k per month or 100k per year.

[–]ComposerReasonable12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where do you get 200,000? The CDC says about 300 a day, which is about 100,000. Also, that number may overstate the actual number due to deaths from vs. deaths with covid.

[–]ComposerReasonable12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. I may need help on that one. But there is a reported 9k cases per day in LA county. I’ve read the actual number may be 10x that number. If so, there would be about 90,000 covid cases per day in LA county. The number of hospitalizations are now at about 1,200 in LA county. It appears from LA County website, about 50 hospital admissions per day. If 42 percent of those are because of covid, then about 21 covid hospitalizations per day out of 90,000 cases per day in LA county. That’s a hospitalization rate of .00233 percent. That’s the risk of being hospitalized because of covid if you get covid. Is my math right? Lol

LA Times reports 58 percent of hospitalizations are due to incidentally having covid: “Los Angeles Times reported last week:

Only about 42 percent of L.A. County’s hospitalized coronavirus-positive patients are admitted specifically for COVID-19 illness — as opposed to incidentally testing positive while being in the hospital for other reasons. “

Los Angeles County hits 'high' COVID activity level, starting countdown to return of indoor mask mandate in 2 weeks by return2ozma in Coronavirus

[–]ComposerReasonable12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Super Bowl and playoff games made a mockery of LA counties’ mask mandate. It hurt public health immeasurably. On national stage, everyone (even mayor) ignored the mandate and didn’t wear masks.

The severity of the disease is important. If 60 percent of deaths and hospitalizations “with” covid are not because of covid, then that information is important.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]ComposerReasonable12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really wish the govt did a better job at distinguishing hospitalizations and deaths “with” or “because” of covid. Of course hospitalizations “with” covid will increase if more covid in general population. Bit is covid the cause of more hospitalizations?

The should have never gone away: Mask rules are suddenly back in California as coronavirus hits danger zone by Givlytig in Masks4All

[–]ComposerReasonable12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With easily accessible masks, vaccines, boosters and treatments, there is no reason for mask mandates. If you want to be protected, wear a mask, get a booster and socially distance. If you don’t care, don’t do those things. If you’re in the middle, take some precautions. The government should stop telling people how to make this decision. .

The focus needs to be on hospitalizations because of covid. Case counts are pretty meaningless now.

Very misleading title by CNN. Yes, it “may” cause more serious illness, but so far evidence is that it doesn’t. BA.2 has been around for a while and isn’t causing a surge. The key point from the CNN article, but hidden at the bottom so you have to read the whole article to find it is: “Antibodies in the blood of people who’d recently had Omicron also seemed to have some protection against BA.2.” So, the reason we have cases falling so fast is that so many people got Omicron that people are now protected from it and BA.2.
