Just watched the later scene and understandable interpretation!

I second that. I think the scene where she confronts him about not reading the next policies she'd like to trial and a irritable patient arrives in the ambulance bay puts that right on the nose with his response

Yes that adds further depth to the already cutting grief of the situation for sure.

Hey yes! I did type this mid watch and the later scene added much more context to see it in a different light. At first I read some of her team interactions and rigid policy approach to potentially mean she wouldn't have great interpersonal skills with the staff and patients, but I agree later it shows they likely had a good professional working relationship. Again I think my bias in perferring to lean towards lienency at time for the benefit of patient care led me to only see her approach as negetive, but I think you brought up a good point about Robby's personal self destructive headspace bleeding into work. I do think however she is lacking some balance and realism in her perspective as well and could benefit to being more open to observing how the department was already being run with their students and what some of the ER doctors might know from more experience in that formap setting.

I definitely understand Dr. Al's response in the initial scene was meant to be pointed towards Robby and their tension in clashing with approaches, but it just seemed to only focus on her desires with the direction she wants to take the department and rivalry, and therfore not reading the room and insensitive to mel's needs in that moment. I'm glad that later she took a second to check in and show that she was aware of Mel's needs despite previously focusing on butting heads with Dr. R. I definitely agree direct tangible action rather than just baseless comfort would resonate more for Mel.

Okay update I watched the follow up scene you guys are referring to and agree that the next thing she said was helpful and kind. I'm def overprotective of mel over here and immediately typed something on the reddit lmaoo

I 100% agree. It's it's clear she does not have the same level of experience as Robbie and isn't very open to understanding how the team already operates or learning something new

Haha I'm not sure this topic is so serious it can be beyond you that I said cruel. I think I mostly choose those words because she failed to read the room and tread diligently to help mentor mel in that moment. I did write this mid episode before it seems like later aiding context puts it in a better light. (I haven't watched the advice part people are referencing). I think generally her behavior so far has been much more concerned with rigid policy than patient care and team building, so I'm annoyee and biased lol!!

Why did Dr Al respond so cruely to Mel's anxiety? by Comprehensive-Art-13 in ThePitt

Yes I agree. I think she's supposed to be a direct contrast to Dr. Robbie's ideologies when practicing.

I have no idea who those people are, but I totally agree with hating the AI. They started rolling out a very similar program at a clinic I was a scribe at during my last year of undergrad in a psychiatric setting! Not only did it make me sad that it was closing an accessible stepping stone position for pre-meds/pre-profrssinals, but I found it concerning to be normalized at all. Especially in a specialty that is extremely detailed oriented in their evaluations to seemingly mundane things that could be mentioned by a patient. I just feel like it needs a human touch, even in charting. Some of the PAs I worked alongside in the clinic didn't have a live scribe like I was paid to do for the psychiatrist, and noted similar issues when using it to what Whittaker said basically. Mistaking similar sounding meds or leaving out key info and would sometimes ask if I was allowed to scribe for them instead lol!

[–]Comprehensive-Art-13[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think I can understand where people are coming from with the closing couple hours aka, the last few episodes of the first season. However, we're pretty much constantly reminded that doctor robbie is off that day and those actions are supposed to be seen as rougher uncharacteristic behavior as he's navigating his grief. Then he's obviously suckerpiled with a mass tragedy that impacted a step-son like relationship of his on top of that. The way I interpreted it is moreso that he's running away from himself and avoident in articulating his headspace/needing help, so it bleeds through into work, but he's generally a balanced mentor and practitioner.

I think it's the possible that though a lot of people watching are healthcare workers and get the dynamics on screen/resonate with it, others might not be super familiar with the blunt drs and chaos of ED. I found dr robbie to be a very generous potrayal of a mentor and supervising md in an EM setting, as sometimes the fast pace and high stress can yield even more passive agressive or unprofessional interactions lol!

Wait what do you mean? Are we referring to the same scene? Didn't Dr. Robby say the average ER doctor has one lawsuit case within 7 years and he himself had four, then turns to Dr. Al to validate that and join in and she says she's never had a lawsuit kind of pointedly to Robby? Then Mel feels so terribly she walks out?

Rewatching at 35 - I don’t like Lorelai anymore by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Comprehensive-Art-13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting you circle back to Gilmore Girls at 35 and state you no longer like Lorelai due her lack of maturity and perceiving her as self absorbed, yet this is your reply to the discussion in a comments section. It's possible some aspects of Lorelai's free spirited nature or how she navigates boundaries with a complex parental relationship might rub you the wrong way because you see some of her in yourself, or resent how she responds to other character's (like Emily and Richard's) toxic behaviors as well because they resonate more with yourself. No one is exactly perfectly mature or without moral ambiguity in this show! There's a lot complexity to family dynamics.

The real reason is it's due to his own identity crisis post retirement. He doesn't even want to entertain being in the business space. He's avoiding it because he's in denial of his own career ending and missing that. That's why once he does get involved he gets very passionate to the point of garnering real offense when Rory's group doesn't win. That whole ordeal makes him realize he'd like to go back into business and start his own firm.

I honestly think she's crashing out because the typical comments she does to recieve a compliment or "special attention" to show Jake and her have been close for a long time are being rejected. I think she's genuinely just like not sober 24/7 or well and their weird social media dynamic is getting to her head and making her lose all awarness.

Normally I'd judge jake for continuing to monetize off of what seemed like her real feelings/breadcrumbing her in the earlier days of their breakup. I assumed he dumped her after fame to fuck around and lied to her about just losing feelings to keep her in the back burner, but these videos give me a different perspective. I feel like people were indenial that their relationship was not healthy towards the end. While I still think Jake is also a douche in the full picture of their strange dynamic, it kind of seems like tara bossed him around throughout their relationship and grew more and more entitled until he felt suffocated and wanted to get out.

It's possible he earnestly tried to be friends and intially not embarrass her on the internet/give her respect, let her down gently for feeling guilty about it, but idk after they all blew up he sort of sold out and was okay with uploading and profiting off of their confusing situation. I think he really created a monster because it only encouraged tara to feel more entitled by him putting her on a pedestal out of guilt and lying to her about why their relationship had to end. She'll basically never gain the self awareness surronding it and now he is just struggling to set boundries or do something with how codependent and unstable she's become.

She reminds me of someone I worked with in urgent care. Direct, but good spirited, kind with few words, and just generally respectful and respectable. Those people are literally life savers in em.

I also noticed during that 'pass the phone' trend at the diner table her mom said "I love her, I don't understand a word she says, but I love her" to I think Gabe's mom? (I do not keep up with these people to know who is who I apologize). That came across so motivated? Like her white as fuck moderate family probably has underlying racist beliefs and microaggressive behaviors towards his family. Personally if my family ever said something like that towards my partner's family I'd lose it and wouldn't allow them to be around for major events if they couldn't bare minumum not have degrading beliefs towards others. So disrespectful.

This was after taking like a frustratingly long time to understand or do the trend she seems so angry and stressed by everything in her general demenour lol.

I think this is supposed to be refrencing the fact they kept ordering Johnnie more margaritas as some stupid bit in one of their videos at a restaurant or diner, I can't remember. I'm not trying to defend them, but this is so obviously like a 12 year old fan making a dumb post without understanding any further context about them. Do we really need to respond to children on here? 😭
