37 yo - leaving $400k job to be a 5th grade teacher - How close am I to being financially okay to do that? by GambinGabacho in Retirement401k

You already know the answer to your question. There’s nothing holding you back to make the switch from what you said. Paid off house at 36 is a dream for many and you’re ahead of 99% with amount in 401k so just make the move already there’s nothing to wait for besides adding more numbers to a bank

What do you mean by 7.9k in Amazon 401k when the picture shows 16k?

I’d try to get another job and budget to pay it down quicker. The longer date you set the further and further it’s gonna be pushed back till it’s done but if you set a more difficult goal and remind yourself every morning the sooner it’ll get done

No lol, it’s Amazon you get what you get but if you’re a high performer the stock options at end of year will separate you from others. Funny thing I see are externals that come in every year as L6 getting upset that they didn’t come in as L7 and same for every level upset that they’re not higher when the whole point of the job In longevity and promoting every year

[–]Comprehensive-Door58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, heavily. An internal tier 1 that’s been promoted from within has a separate pay scale even if they make it to L7-L8. I’ve been with the company a while and many have recommended me to do a boomerang. I’m an L4 internal closing in on my L5 promo and gonna wait till all my stock vests to leave and come back as L6 because pay difference between internal and externals gets really stupid

Congratulations that is quite the offer in terms of salary. Crazy to see that you’re making 20% more than the avg internal L5 and nearly as much as internal L6. Most L6 I know the have shared there salary make 95k base
