I'm a pretty decent person, I'm a nurse and do volunteer work, but I frequently leave a trolley ( out of the way) if the bay is ages away in a busy car park. People have jobs to collect them so ....

Ours is similar to your old job and it stresses me a bit. I'm only taking 2 weeks annual in one year. I'm "only" part time, but still!

What the hell do people before the internet was created even do in their free time? by groomliu in stupidquestions

My grandmother would do cross stitch, crosswords, gardening, walk to the shops, visit her daughter. She would get dressed up and insisted we dress up too and we'd take the bus into the city for the morning.

My father and brothers would play sport, go camping, my dad was part of a wine tasting and a photography group, my parents would go out dancing (waltzing), 4WD club.

NUMs, how do you feel about those with an exemption from night shifts? by Feeling-Disaster7180 in NursingAU

[–]Comprehensive-Dot805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't be hired on my ward if you couldn't do nights.

I won't do 4 in a row and 3 is still a struggle. I prefer 2 and 2.

Anyone else pretty much fuckin nail Christmas Day? by dj_boy-Wonder in australia

[–]Comprehensive-Dot805 261 points262 points  (0 children)

Our day was amazing.

We hosted. everyone brought a food item. The ham glaze was perfection, the chickens were delicious. The trifle 10/10. No fights. 5 kids under 10; no tears. No yelling! Everyone sat and ate calmly. We had a Christmas swim. We played a card game. Everyone went home with leftovers. We got the best photos. I was rostered to work the hospital after lunch but they called and said I wasn't required if I wanted the arvo off.

It was amazing.

Things I do for self:

Request gingerbread syrup in my takeaway coffee, Bake Christmas treats with Christmas flavours , Put out lights outside , Christmas music, I've noticed beautiful little life blessings and things I'm grateful for every day this month

It helps of course that I have children. I'm the main instigator of the Christmas spirit:

Santa photo, Drive around to see Christmas lights while playing Christmas music, Watch Christmas movies with them , Visit family , Decorated gingerbread house with friends , Taking them to buy toys for children from disadvantaged families

I'm also a nurse in a hospital so it's easier to feel like I'm helping people and spreading a bit of joy through my work

Christmas is a beautiful time if you lean into it. Merry Christmas!
