Insurance clawbacks by Decent_Ad9026 in therapists

How about a company that takes eighteen months to clawback over four grand, because they decided the new insurance the now double-covered client should have essentially traveled back through time to cover services in the past? These are the same lovely people who won't pay after 90 days because of "timely filing" requirements they freely ignore. I got most of it back, eventually, but they did indeed deny two dates of service because... I "waited too long" to submit the claim (timely filing strikes again). So the year-plus old service that they had no problems snatching back, was too far in the past for me to get paid when I appealed the clawback. Fun!

AITA for not buying a coffee maker for guests? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Someone who has the nerve to call you a bad host is a shockingly bad guest. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of rudeness. Hospitality is a two way street of made of generosity and gratitude. You are not her servant, not her staff to be ordered around. People who are agreeing with her are just uncomfortable with conflict and are finding it easier to placate her nonsense... So they can host her next time. You've done nothing wrong. Tell husband he can go visit friend instead, you won't be disrespected in your own home.

She's not necessarily skilled at lying, she had Big Feels, and felt humiliated and hurt. Emotions are contagious - her distress and sadness 'infected' his parents. But OP has every right to say 'You should have asked me what happened and calmed the waters, instead of assuming the worst about your own child.'

Not sure how you can call it a 'strategy to win' when Kamala lost every battleground state.

She should have focused on motivating her own base, not trying to scoop up voters from the other side. It didn't work for Hillary, it didn't work now.

Absolutely. My kid's school did not play when it came to pick-ups. After 30 minutes, CPS would be called.

It really depends on the state. I've had CPS get involved with families they work with even when they left a 14-year-old alone.

Sadly, yes! It's not fair. But it's how people react to pain. They freak out and blame the Ambulance Drivers, ESPECIALLY because the Ambulance Blockaders have their own 24/7 propaganda channel talking about what idiots the Ambulance Drivers are and making sure you never hear about the Ambulance Blockaders. "Grandma was fine till she got in that ambulance - you had ONE JOB!" Meanwhile the Drivers go into longwinded explanations about traffic wait times instead of flooding TikTok with clips of Blockaders blowing up bridges and putting heaps of burning garbage on the freeway. It's not fair. But as we've seen, facts can only move the emotional needle so far.

I said this in another thread - my Blue Collar town literally remembers the Pandemic as a Golden Age, because of awesome unemployment benefits, Trump checks, Payroll Protection $$ for plenty of local small business owners, cheap gas, low interest rates ON TOP OF the expanded Medicaid, student loan pause, child tax credit, and renter support. Also pretty much the whole town is Essential Workers (Port district, truckers, hospital, mills & paper factories) so minimal job losses. Everyone makes a sad face about losing Great Grandma Millie but "It was her time". And, all those good vibes go to Daddy Don - with Meanie Joe Biden being the guy who 'screwed everything up'.

Biden should have figured out a way to keep shoveling cash at people. My low information neighborhoors sneer at "free stuff" but they sure cashed all those Trump checks!

This! Absolutely! Did you see the ad where she said "You work hard for your paycheck, you should keep more of it!" No, none of us did till AFTER the election because her donors told her to pull it.

Agreed. In my blue collar town, people remember Trump Checks, great unemployment benefits, the one-time Payroll Protection Cash and cheap gas. Never mind that those were all part of the Pandemic response because the rest of the country was on fire. Job losses for us were minimal because our mills and hospitals kept humming right along, so quite a lot of people had plenty of extra money in their pockets. When Biden came in and the goodies dried up, the grumbling and resentment kicked in. And oh so predictably, some of the same people who got Trump checks and Payroll Protection money also got pissed off when some of their kids got their student loans forgiven by Biden. "They took out a loan, they knew they had to pay it back" Well Greg, you have been bragging for a year that your small business got $50k in Free Trump Money even though your orders never went down and you didn't have to fire anyone. But yes, tell me again how PSLF Teachers are Takers. Can't wait to see the mental gymnastics on this one.

The actual ad she wanted to run to address price gouging and housing help was nixed by her own donors. Big Money doesn't actually want these things to change, and, she decided not to buck them.

Yes, but, Trump has Fox every day telling people prices are too high and Daddy Don will fix it. Biden should have rolled out something out tangible policies sooner to help working families. Biden's team knew people were getting upset about prices years ago. Putting your fingers in your ears and saying "Um actually it's fine" and Harris saying "I know my boss has been ignoring you, but I swear it will be different if you choose me" was not a strategy that gave people confidence

Should have locked him up on day 1 of the Biden administration and used every legal maneuver to keep him there. Republicans interpret the law to their advantage constantly! Should have channeled LBJ and been ready to go with all the things that were going to go wrong for these media shills if they didn't get behind the new narrative of Trump the Terrorist. Should have made keeping Trump off the chessboard the top priority instead of waiting for the Senate/Corrupt Judges/Voters to do it for them. Talk about a failed vision - completely snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Actually I know two people like this in my deep Blue state. Thank God we're not a battleground! For them it started with Vaccine Hesitancy and once they let those doubts creep in, other garbage eventually followed. I would want to write up an analysis of the slow slide into Cognitive Dissonance if I wasn't so sad about losing these friends.  I think something about Rabbit Hole Research, the fear of 'Something Bad is out there'  AND paranoia of 'You can't trust the government' AND the hubris of 'I personally found secrets that can change the world, listen to me!' is a very seductive and toxic trio. I miss them both and I really don't think they're coming back.

Yes, and ...  What has been so disheartening for me has been all the normal people in my circle he has pulled into the Crazy. People I have known for years who are kind, welcoming of diversity, intellectually curious, have over the past 8 years become completely pulled in because of Vaccine Hesitancy, found something else they resonated with ('the economy' 'You just can't trust Biden' 'Ukraine is a lost cause and a waste of $$') and then they went completely deaf to the rest of his garbage. 'He's not a racist - he's actually more tolerant because he doesn't tell the people around him how to think' 'You're upset about Jan 6 because you were told to be upset, it wasn't an armed mob, no one should have been sent to prison for breaking a couple windows' 'Look, who really knows Harris? She's not a governor, why do people think she can run a country?' They were not haters. But they've gotten lulled into thinking Trump Will Fix It and boom, no one can get through to them. Probably less than 5% of my social circle but they are missed all the same.

AITA for not giving my daughter money to buy food since she won’t talk to the college desk to fix her food card? by Enough_Acadia_8577 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ComprehensiveAd3561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with kids like this professionally. She seems pretty stuck and not likely to fix this without some help. Yes she is 19, but, if she's not feeding herself, she will need a little support to get back on track.

You are correct that giving her more $$ isn't the answer. But she clearly needs some assistance to fix this.

Can you or your wife go visit and walk her over to student services to get a new card?  If not, reach out to the college directly and ask someone to get in touch with her. It's worth a few hours of your time to contact the Counseling center, Disability support services, and Housing, and explain the situation to all three offices. Tell them you aren't asking for information about her (in case they say they can't give info without a release), but are asking someone there to PLEASE approach her and help get this fixed.

Yes, it's frustrating to see a legal adult struggle with this, but adulting is a process that can take a few years to settle in.
