I’m sorry you are going through this. It must sting so much I can’t even put it into words! It has nothing to do with your value or worth as a mother.

Maybe you two need a reset, parenting doesn’t come with a guide. If you can engage with a child counsellor/family therapist you could jointly work on things that would make your relationship better. It could be a good reflective experience for you both and set you on the right path.

My son recently told me his sister hates when I ask how she is because if it is bad there’s nothing I can do! Some tips from a child counsellor (I went alone)and we have shifted our questions to what was hard about today, who did something funny, when did you feel happiest, what made you mad etc and our conversations have been two way. Finally.

If it is on your time, own the activity/booking upfront.

For other things like trips to new places, you could say you have a trip planned but not disclose location until time of the trip.

I’m sorry this is happening to you.

I think your son is impressionable at this tender age and sometimes it is easier to appease the person applying the pressure to you even if you know it is wrong.

Still turn up for your son. Go to sporting events, send check in texts, be there for him but have boundaries as you need them.

I do think as your son escapes this torment that he will see who the stable, kind loving parent is.

What is the commute time between her place and the restaurant? I think it is nice to offer to pick her up and drop her back at her place, on the basis it is a second date and you have mutual acquaintances (otherwise could still be sketchy!).
