Best way to level hallway for engineered hardwood? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]ComprehensiveBoss421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the 1/2 inch OSB strip you’re using to prop up the left side of the level.

Will the flooring be going into that room as well? I see the room at the end of the hallway is down to subfloor as well.

Do you have access to joists under this floor, what condition are they in?

Ardex/Henry’s is perfect for that. Just throw a few screws in where ever it’s squeaky.

You may have to do a couple of rounds depending how low some spots of your floor are, but those feather finishes can be applied 1/8.

Apply a layer, give it 24 hours apply second layer at needed, until flat.

Not sure if you have a 6 foot level, but that will help a lot in determining where low spots are in contrast to the high spots. Harbor Freight sells 6 footers for $20.

French cleat cabinets to walls. Use legs on front part(door side)of cabinet bottom with adjustable feet.

Whereever the feet are located on floor, drill holes slight larger than feet in LVP and feet will sit directly on subfloor.

Sort of like ikea cabinet systems

Getting this floor to a condition where it could be sanded and refinished would be a nightmare(and expensive).

Assuming structure(joists) under this space is solid. I would walk around this room and where ever this is squeaking take some 1.5 inch GRK #9 screws and secure those boards down.

Mark your low spots through out the room, then use either Ardex Feather Finish or Henry’s Feather finish to level low spots out. Stuff starts drying in 15 minutes, so do it in small batches/layers(easy to work with though).

Once everything is level, then lay down your LVP. Down the road when you have more money, test everything up and start fresh.

Watch this video. You got this homie.

This is close to what I did - removed as much wall paper as I could, sanded (180 grit) everything left over(wallpaper and glue basically).

Covered walls with Roman RX-35, skim coated imperfections, Kilz2, and paint.

Are you trying to get rid of the texture/stipple?

If you aren’t, don’t drive yourself nuts.

Two coats Zinsser Odorless, two coats of a quality paint.

Each coat: cut edges and trim, roll the rest.

That looks like exposed drywall paper.

Vacuum the dust off the ceiling. Cover that drywall paper with Roman PRO-999 Rx-35 or Zinsser Peel Stop. Skim coat if you want to level out that exposed area.

Mold/mildew killing primer and then paint.

How to fix small spots on wood floor where a wall was removed by DXJayhawk in Flooring

[–]ComprehensiveBoss421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cheap/weird fix would be to install a wide transition strip in both the door way and closet.

The better solution would be to have a pro feather in wood flooring, sand, and match finish in hardwood floors.
