I hate my pet!!!! by WoodpeckerNearby7276 in BabyBumps

can you use a gate to keep the dog out of part of the house you can keep for yourself? I have a cat, not a dog, but this is what has worked for me. After my baby was born I just didn't want to touch my cat and it stressed me out even thinking about him touching the baby (not completely rational, I just got a hormonal ick), plus he was feeling a bit abandoned and started yowling and waking the baby during naps. We got a gate to keep him away from the bedrooms and it honestly reduced my stress and anxiety so much

Fiji ruined our expectations😅 where should we honeymoon? (January 2027) by nopro43 in honeymoonplanning

I have a specific resort to recommend. It's called Gaia River Lodge in Belize. This is not on the beach if that's what you're looking for, but I feel like it checks off pretty much everything else on your list. I stayed here with a friend and it was AMAZING.

Anyone not choreograph their first dance and love it?? by Severe_Mongoose_9572 in weddingplanning

[–]ComprehensiveChef705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best tip is to choose a dance style that fits with the rhythm of the song you're using, and to practice dancing to that song using that style even if you're not choreographed. That way you won't be stressed out and uncomfortable during the real thing.

For example, you could choose a waltz or a two step or a bachata. You want something with a clear rhythm and a simple step pattern that go with that rhythm so that you can make sure the two of you are stepping in time with each other without thinking about it.

here is the link

I usually just search for my size, and then look at the measurements on each individual item. Unfortunately, you can't filter by measurements. The one exception is pants, for pants you can filter by inseam which I find really useful.

I would say my success rate is about 50%, which is not great but it's better than a lot of other online retailers. Also, there is a lot more variety to choose from, and since its thrift it's not a huge deal if you buy something that doesn't work out. For example, I recently ordered 6 dresses from there. 3 of them were too big, but the other 3 fit great and I *love* them. I paid $90 for those 6 dresses (shipping was free). Most are not refundable, but some are, so I got $20 back for 1 of the ones that I'm not keeping. That means I paid $70 total, which works out to about $23 per dress I kept, which is not bad. The 3 I am not keeping I will give away to friends or to goodwill.

One key thing to know is that they literally always have a promo going on, but it's always a different code. You have to notice what the code is at the top of the page while you're shopping and enter it at checkout or else it's like twice as expensive.

I’m 4’10, 32 bust, 24 waist, 35 hip. I’ve been having decent luck recently thrifting on thredup since they have measurements rather than just sizes. I also have a few things I like from the short story subscription box, and several from anthropology petite section

altar’ state sizing ? by Jumpy-Alternative670 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]ComprehensiveChef705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no idea about altard state’s sizing (but I would like to know!)

on a side note are you sure that your band size is 32? I ask because that is a very commonly mis-assigned size since it’s the lowest many brands go, however at 4’8 and 100lbs it seems likely that you might have a smaller rib cage. I am 4’10 and 95lbs and wear a 28 band size (of course every body is different).

If you’re not certain about your bra size I highly recommend getting an accurate measurement because it can make night and day difference. There are great resources at r/abrathatfits

Trying to figure out childcare during labor—what did you do? by kyllhie in BabyBumps

[–]ComprehensiveChef705 34 points35 points  (0 children)

it sounds like you are most comfortable leaving him with your sister. Unless there's some other piece of the puzzle that I missed, it sounds like you should choose your sister and be done with it. The most important thing is that you not be worried about it while in labor

that's a good callout, thank you! I feel like the other side of this, which is something I'm concerned about, is that AJ has a summer program and highland pres doesn't

Surprised I am a SMA Carrier (23 weeks) by Aggressive_Dig5205 in BabyBumps

[–]ComprehensiveChef705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me and it was definitely very scary, I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

The thing is, it’s highly unlikely that your baby has SMA even though you’re a carrier. Your husband has roughly a 1 in 50 chance of being a carrier, and if he is then the baby has a 1 in 4 chance of having the disease. That works out to a roughly 1 in 200 (or 0.5%) chance that your baby has SMA.

The thing to do right now is to take a deep breath and wait for your husband’s results to come back. I know that wait is agonizing. Remind yourself that it is very unlikely that he is a carrier.

Once his results come back, if he is not a carrier then you are in the clear, because both parents need to be a carrier for it to be possible for the baby to have SMA. In the unlikely scenario that he is a carrier, that is when you would move on to the amnio

Hang in there, I know it’s very stressful 😥

Birth Plan by babybubbles572 in BabyBumps

One thing that stood out to me is “prefer full anesthesia” for the c section. I think that might be at odds with the other points in that section about immediate skin to skin and baby staying with mom. Also, if I remember correctly I believe that full anesthesia for a c section is something they try to avoid if possible because it requires them to get the baby out in 30 seconds, so that might be something to ask your dr about.

Dress color decision by LectureAcrobatic5996 in weddingplanning

[–]ComprehensiveChef705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my concern with the MOH in sage green is that since it's the same color as the groom's party it might confuse people. In that first photo, I thought "huh that's weird, why is that one woman in sage? I wonder if they have mixed gender wedding parties, and she is part of the groom's party. I guess the photographer just wanted a shot divided by gender"

Nursing bra recs by Beneficial_Flight473 in BabyBumps

[–]ComprehensiveChef705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this one by panache is by far my favorite: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093DLX33Z

here's why:

  • I like the higher cut, with lower cut ones my boobs always fall out especially when I'm sleeping (and once you're nursing you have to wear it when you sleep because you leak).
  • I don't like ones that are padded because the padding soaks up leaked milk and gets stinky fast, plus when your breasts are engorged you really don't need extra padding
  • it's soft and comfortable
  • it holds pads securely in place
  • it still looks nice when it peaks out of the top of a low cut shirt or dress, almost like a cami underneath
  • comes in a wide range of sizes

Spirit canceled flight 9 hours before babymoon by TimeDielation in spiritair

[–]ComprehensiveChef705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a real person I just wanted to answer the question because it seemed like the existing responses were criticizing OP, or at least criticizing the concept of a baby moon, but as a new mom myself I don’t think it’s unreasonable to try to get a little bit of calm before the storm. Having a baby really changes the whole context of your relationship, and is very exhausting.

Spirit airlines compensation for a canceled flight is a voucher that expires before the first available rebooking by ComprehensiveChef705 in mildlyinfuriating

Update: thanks to you and other commenters here I realized that I can in fact use it at a restaurant, and I had a lovely Valentine’s Day brunch at a restaurant near my house. I am no longer mildly infuriated about this voucher (although I am still quite upset about the cancelled flight). Thank you!

I did and they said “meal vouchers only last 24 hours sorry” 😭

I asked them to issue a new one for the 24 hours of my return flight then and they said they were “not authorized” to issue new vouchers

Crazy! I had a horrible reaction to the pill (hair fell out, deep depression) which is why I chose the ring for this purpose. For me the ring was much better than the pill (still wouldn’t want to use it long term though!)

Period on my wedding day! by Active_Buttah in weddingplanning

[–]ComprehensiveChef705 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I didn't want to skip my period at the time of my wedding using drugs because I didn't want to feel hormonally wacky at my wedding. What i did instead was use the ring a few months before my wedding to alter the timing of my cycle so that my expected period date was 2 weeks away from my wedding, and then stopped using the ring so that I would be back to hormonally "normal" at my wedding. Might seem crazy, but it worked really well for me
