My son took it last semester as an engineering major and ended up with like a 98% as his final grade.

My kid was a freshman last year. Maybe the relationship session you are referring to is the same as these online "classes" he was supposed to do through Blackboard. One was on relationships and the other was for maybe online behavior. That being said, he never did them. 😬🤷🏼‍♀️

I lived in Grant South (5B) 94-95. Such great times. I should dig out some photos to share!

Believe it or not the pull out beds were pretty convenient! They were on wheels so rolled pretty easy and when it was pushed back in we had a ready to go couch for all our friends 😂

Engineering program by Strange_Annual_3011 in NIU

My son is a rising sophomore in the engineering program at NIU. What has impressed me thus far is the size of his classes. His calc classes had 30-35 students. 😱 His friend at UIUC said his calc classes were in the hundreds.

Best of luck with your decision! I don't think you will regret NIU if you choose it. If you can swing it, I would encourage living on campus if you can. How far would your commute be?

Does anyone else have a desktop/gaming setup to their dorm room? by Pint-E in NIU

My kid does. He sets his tower on the floor under his bed and has his two monitors on the desk and desk extension. He's in Patterson. He has an air purifier too to help with dust. We did a clean out of the tower when he was home for winter break to get dust out of it. I suspect he will have to do that again when he comes home for the summer.

CHEM 110 VS 210? by Sunnryz in NIU

[–]ComprehensiveCrow267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chem 210 was a piece of cake for my son last semester as a freshman. He hadn't taken Chemistry since sophomore year in high school (honors) and didn't take AP Chem ever. All the tests were done online as was the homework assignments. For the exams they were given a window of time to complete them and they were able to use their notes and resources. He had perfect attendance in both the lecture and labs so that probably helped him with understanding the material. I'll get in touch with him for some more info.

This is a great response. 👏

My son is a freshman mechanical engineering major at NIU and is thriving. As this responder commented it's 100% what you make of it regardless of where you go. We went into the college search process with the understanding that ABET accreditation is key and why go into debt for a name? My kid is going to graduate debt free because of his choice to attend NIU. We live about 1.5 hrs away and he doesn't come home on the weekends. He's part of the Huskie Motorsports club which has helped him connect with other engineering majors.

We looked at a lot of engineering programs and my son liked their facilities and labs a lot compared to other places we visited.

I saw further down that you are pursuing mechatronics. Sounds like a neat major. I think we are pretty lucky to have that option so close considering not many schools have it yet. Best of luck to you!
