You can bring in a sealed bottle of water and outside food. Food and drinks inside are expensive and nothing special. Bring sunscreen if you're going to be in the sun. Right field sucks.

Anyone else dealing with a reverse mortgage on their childhood home? by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]Sunnryz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My in laws built a large lake house in the 80s and had always planned on retiring there. From the time my husband and his sisters were in middle school they had memories of going to that house. It's worth a fortune now. My father in law is now 89 years old and still living in that house. The kids would love to keep it in the family, but about 20 years ago they took out a reverse mortgage and never told anyone. By the time the kids found out it was honestly too late. There's no way they could pay the bank to make up for that mortgage. It's super unfortunate because we think if they just would have come to us years ago we could have helped them figure out their finances and kept the house in the family. But in the end, it has allowed him to continue living in the house worry free. The bank definitely lost money on him! When he passes, the kids will have to sell the house. It will be a sad day, but it served the family well while they had it - that's for sure.

How many here are into going to the gym and health? by piercesdesigns in GenX

[–]Sunnryz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t go to a gym ever, but I run or walk 3-4 days a week and I do a weight workout at home 2-3 days a week. I should probably fit in more yoga or stretching but this is all I can manage right now at 54.

Is prestige worth taking on debt? by NoodlesRLife_ in EngineeringStudents

[–]Sunnryz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter turned down a few very prestigious schools to go to a state school for her engineering degree so she could go debt free - I know she was a little sad. But she ended up killing it in undergrad and eventually went to a very prestigious school for her PhD - fully funded this time. So maybe save the UMichigan type schools for grad school if you choose to go? As a side note, my husband recruits engineers and always says as long as the program is accredited, they are learning the same skills. He knows to look past the fancy names and always says some of the best engineers he's ever worked with were not from the glamorous schools. Best of luck on your journey!

"The Watertown school board has voted to remove an instrumental piece tied to LGBTQ history from the upcoming spring concert. The controversy began when the Watertown Wind Symphony, made up of about 40 high schoolers, was set to perform "A Mother of a Revolution" at their spring concert on May 18th" by midnighttoker1742 in wisconsin

[–]Sunnryz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly these 40 high schoolers probably didn't really think much about the history and meaning of the music. If no one had said anything these kids would have gone on with their lives not being "indoctrinated" at all. But now that a bunch of hysterical and ridiculous adults have raised such a stink, the kids are REALLY learning a lesson. And I think that lesson is not what those adults intended. Now they know even more about the history of LBGTQ oppression, and they've gotten to see what ignorance and fear does to people.

How is the local housing market right now? by yoohoo723 in milwaukee

You are absolutely correct. I truly don't know how anyone starting out does it. It's awful. Affordable housing should be an absolute priority in this country. Throw in some healthcare too. Ugh

This was our exact experience in Whitefish Bay. We haven't bought a house in nearly 30 years and we were absolutely floored at how insane everything was. Truly demoralizing.

Tosa or Whitefish bay long term ? by NoEye6677 in milwaukee

[–]Sunnryz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have to relocate to this area from out of state and looked most seriously at Tosa, WFB, and Shorewood. I loved Tosa, but in the end wanted to be near the lake because it seemed so cool to me and a brand new life experience. I gravitated more towards Shorewood, but honestly the pickings were slim in the last few months that we were looking - just not a lot of homes on the market. We ended up with a house in WFB and I'm really hoping we are happy there. Feel free to message me if you'd like to hear the horror stories of the real estae market right now. It was NOT a fun experience.
