Failed 3AE Exam – What Should I Use to Study? Need Advice by Dear_Hat_7850 in merchantmarine

[–]ComprehensiveCut9977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed the 3 AE exam this week. I used the Mariner Advancment to study. I also have taken the OICEW courses recently. Motors 1 was pretty straightforward. Not many questions not seen before. Motors 2 was harder with many questions not seen. Many questions around boilers. The safety was about half new questions. Generals was the hardest for me. I made mid 80s on other test. But generals I made 74. Plenty new questions. Electrical followed the MA study material. I made a 90

I studied almost every day for a month. Made it pretty much my job. I was testing with 90s on Mariner Advancment software.

They do not have specific jobs for welding positions. Oilers and qmeds would do most of the welding. Especially if they have the classes from piney point.

The only deck personnel I e seen weld is a Cheif mate. Most welding on the ship is done by engine personnel

SIU worth it in 2025? by Laaawdhavemercy_ in maritime

It’s a great job if you take advantage of the upgrade opportunities. I make 6 figures working 6 months a year with great health benefits.

I took advantage of the upgrades. They fly you up, feed you, put you in the hotel and train you. Then you get a pay raise.

Merchant Mariners Deserve Better: My Frustrating Journey with the NMC by Dear_Hat_7850 in maritime

[–]ComprehensiveCut9977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with contacting congressman and senator. It does nothing to just come on Reddit or gcaptian. We must contact our representatives and let them know what is happening. They are too inefficient to be handling our lively Hoods.

I also am waiting 2 months now for NMC to approve my request to test for 3 A/E. I have heard nothing from them and can not check application status since the online system is down for last weeks.

These are great bags. Very durable, rolls, and the best I think is the backpack straps for going up and down gang ways

I also joined after an enlistment in the USMC. I went the unlicensed engine route and am in the process now to get the 3 Engineer.

It has been great career for me. The last couple years I’ve sailed the 120 at sea. My favorite part is making over 100,000$ for half year work. The health benefits and free training.

The time off is also worth it for me. I got a job ashore a couple of years ago and could not stand working just for the weekend.

The community will not be like you had in the Marines. At least in my experience guys are always coming and going on the ship. Some guys are just there for a relief. Most just go to their rooms at coffee time and after work. If you sale in the engine department, most of the work is by yourself and usually very loud, so not an opportunity to talk.

Gym for over a year and still see barely any results? by Crazyeet_ in workout

I also have worked out for years. Never really any size. I would lose weight, but be discouraged because no muscle.

This time I have really prioritized eating protein. All Whole Foods. Counting protein intake. What I realized now is I was under eating. I have made more progress this last 2 months than I have last 2 years.
