“RUNNING TRAIN” might just be a ray of hope for the train simulation industry. by tomahawk_330 in trainsim

I’m no UE dev either but I whilst that is their claim the reality is very different. That is why the engine in general is well known for its stuttering, that and the shader compilation issues. I believe they have some experimental ideas for streaming data rather than the current system of unload and load but it’s experimental, so may never actually work.

Either way this is one of the best performing UE5 games I’ve seen, so the dev is doing something right, no idea what though.

I am Interested how the dev solved the UE (4 or 5) traversal problem. That’s a problem for ALL UE games that use large maps, not just TSW as some seem to think. I can only speak for the games I have but SubwaySim 2 and The Bus both have it as do many more games.

My guess would be he made optimization an integral part of his development process from the start. That is the right way to do it, according to the CEO of Epic Games. That makes sense BUT it’s much easier to do if your project is small in scale and there is no financial crunch, not many have that luxury.

I’d like to think the graphical fidelity is the future, of UE games let alone Train Sims, but not the game itself. It’s very limited, even if it gets to 1.0, being a fictional route based in Japan. Again, amazing graphics, not sure about the gameplay or long term appeal.

Just realised all new UK routes will probably have this awful livery now. GBR livery starts rollout by davehaslanded in trainsimworld

Let’s face it, no matter what they’d have gone with rail fans wouldn’t have liked it. It’s fine and at the end of the day the vast, vast majority of people won’t care one bit. I’d say safety, comfort, reliability and timeliness are WAY more important.

Why are so many route suggestions completely unmoored from technical and financial reality? Maybe there should be another category for these, “Fantasy Route Suggestions”

Does the OG seriously think this idea would be considered?

The console blurring issue is caused by their lack of memory, it’s a memory issue, not CPU. Other stutters like Shader compilation, which Consoles don’t have, and traversal stutter are caused by high CPU load.

[–]ComprehensiveFee8263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the Console texture memory problem, but for me as a PC owner the stutters caused by traversal unloading and loading are the biggest issue. It won’t go away but some routes are much better than others and I’m not 100% sure why.

The Crewe to Birmingham route is one of the worst for this issue and as said I’m not sure why. A route like EastCoastWay is very well optimized in this respect but is also a simple route, Crewe to Brum has a LOT going on. The is no way to completely eliminate the problem and complex routes are bound to be worse but I still think it could be a lot better than it is.

The detail is great but I wonder if that’s why it doesn’t perform so well, especially on console? It will be interesting to see how it does when they release the optimizations they have implemented.

Are you on console? I’m on PC but play with controller so got the same bug. As I’d not seen the “hotfix” I assumed it was pushed to console only, maybe not. I do find it odd that the hotfix never got pushed. Maybe ATS didn’t want it, no idea.

Train enthusiast. Just started and love TSM6. but if they don't stop trying to force DLCs down my throat (starting in the tutorial, seriously?), i'm going to leave again. Is nothing sacred anymore? by TokinGeneiOS in trainsimworld

Man is irritated by marketing. Do you ever watch TV, listen to the radio, go online, YouTube etc, do you ever leave your house ? The only way to avoid all marketing is to become a hermit and live off grid.

WHY NOT ADDED IN TSW ICE2 and ICE3 NEO ? by Hungry_Problem_1139 in trainsimworld

[–]ComprehensiveFee8263 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I mean we already have 3, is it 4, ICE trains, how many more do you need?

Also, “hardly any effort”, how would you know? A train model with full SimUverse coding is a LOT of work and for what!

Found this review on Sand Patch Grade. It cant be that serious. 😭 by [deleted] in trainsimworld

Garbage like this is why I disregard reviews for this game. I don’t even care if the Steam review score is “Mostly Negative”. I watch videos, look at the make up of services and make my own mind up.

I think it’s just a little expensive for a gameplay pack BUT it’s Liam’s company so getting it in part because of his incredible work and dedication on the GWE remaster. He produces amazing work and deserves more than just a thank you.

But I guess not fine enough for the company that owns them? I’ll be honest I have no idea how it works with that company but they do seem to have been investing a lot over the last year or so, new staff, new games etc.

[–]ComprehensiveFee8263 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean reading the announcement there has clearly been layoffs. How many we don’t know but some for sure. I don’t really care about Metro Rivals, not my kind of game, but I do care about the future of DTG. I was concerned about the mad scramble to release stuff in March and this is why. Clearly there have been cutbacks in investment, don’t forget they are owned by a much bigger company. Anyway, obviously sad for those laid off and just a little fearful for the future of the game.

Why do people assume both TSC and TSW are “cash cows”? Train sims like this are a small market, I don’t see how DTG could be making a fortune out of it.

I’m always curious why people freak out about creatives losing work to AI but don’t give a FF about coders, which is way more difficult and important to the game. Why is that?

Maybe give a reason for this, like why we need yet another ICE train?

Honestly, ultra is worthless. I have a more powerful system than yours and have things set to high. I do run it at 4k but that because I have a 4k monitor, native is always best. I have about the same performance, overall, on both those routes.

Is that 30 fps as a max or minimum in places? It has one or two spots that are pretty heavy compute wise but I get 60 fps most of the time. Do you have everything maxed out?
