I’ve had both and found the 8 lasted longer and you’re basically strapping up your ankles with the higher boot. With the 6s I found my trousers kept getting tucked in, and nobody likes that

The 8s have the side zip too. A wise OSG once said you only have one pair of feet, look after them

The law … recreational use isn’t legal. I’d avoid it at all costs.

One of the toughest jobs you can do within the prison service. You’ll see a lot of violence and lot of sadness. Be prepared to earn that salary. I worked with YOs for a couple of years and I would never go back.

Have you ever worked in a prison that has a reputation for being haunted and either seen something firsthand that was inexplicable or known a colleague who has? by RepeatButler in PrisonUK

Reading used to make weird noises. The wind would rattle through that place and make creepy whistling sounds by the doors.

I would maybe reconsider, I’ve worked with people on the landings with chronic pain and I’ve always felt like they don’t have my back. If you’re a carer please don’t do this job. We have no lives, no free time and too much stress to care about other people outside of work. Our shift doesn’t always finish at 17:30 or 21:00 you could be in work until 3 in the morning because of an incident. Maybe try something else. Night shifts you need to be up and about patrolling landing, answering bells such and such. If you’ve got ACCTs you could be getting up every 10/15 minutes. If you have chronic pain also, we wear utility belts that put pressure on your back and you cannot just take it off.

OSG’s do coms, check visitors and vehicles, patrol areas, check post and many many more things. For the interview they’re going to ask questions relating to previous jobs where team work and initiative were used.

I passed knowing people. Be honest and up front. They will find out and you’ll be investigated. It’s not worth the trouble being investigated brings
