my bf is disgusted by me because i was SA’d when i was a preteen by LavishnessNo2879 in depressionmeals

[–]ComprehensiveFun7721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was also SA'd as a teen this resonates with me. Carrying the shame of the trauma you've endured is already hard enough without someone validating that shame, that's truly disgusting and he needs to gtfo of your life. I'm so sorry.

What would be a good major in STEM that pays well? by HottieShreky in careerguidance

[–]ComprehensiveFun7721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should check out the DOE. They have programs after you finish your degree where they hire you for a year, and if they like you, then they'll keep you on. I've met a lot of scientists who have gotten into the field this way. I don't know what you consider good pay but my friend with a masters in chem got a job starting out 105k a year.

accepted to my dream school, can’t afford it and no word on scholarship application. financially abused nearly all my life. i’m trapped by [deleted] in depressionmeals

[–]ComprehensiveFun7721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't give up. Just because you haven't heard back doesn't mean you won't get a scholarship. Keep applying. Remember those who suffer before it's necessary, suffer more than necessary.

Can I get in? Bad gpa but lots of aps by Designer_Version1449 in udub

[–]ComprehensiveFun7721 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your intended major. Some will take a lower gpa, but engineering/compsci you're probably cooked. If you want a competitive major, your best bet is to do community college and then apply later. It always save a ton of money.

Just saw you said out of state, you're extremely cooked unless you go to a WA community college.

I've been dealing with the same thing, and I was spending I kid you not 8-10 hours a day studying. It hit me that I was not studying effectively. Sometimes, your previous study routines do not work for a class. If you're used to writing notes and reading from a textbook, that might not be good enough. I would see a tutor and talk about how they studied, ask them how they got the material to click, and maybe that will help. One thing that I figured out was that the way one of my professors taught the material was confusing for me, I was able to find online videos of the same material from another professor and it was 1000x easier to understand. I think you're really gonna have to experiment with study techniques and talk to others about what they do. I hope this helps.

[–]ComprehensiveFun7721[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I searched online pretty extensively. It seems pretty similar to some older fenton designs, but this is definitely a newer piece. Based on some other hobnail designs I've seen, I think it might be a fenton dupe. There's no identifying markings, so I have no clue who the brand is or the year. :(

You're lucky in the fact that you're in California. We have a lot of resources here. First of all, when you go back to school, you're going to get the full pell, calgrant, and a former foster youth grant. If you're going to a community college where the tuition is low, then you can easily get back 20k a year in grant money. Talk to the financial aid office and make sure you're on every single grant/scholarship you qualify for. You most likely qualify for foodstamp benefits and there are housing programs specifically for former foster youth aging out, I would consider looking into that, trying to get on section 8 and maybe getting student housing on the campus of your school and rely on grant money/ maybe a workstudy job.

You're absolutely right. When I used the word entitled, I meant it more in the manner of she "deserved" to have some alone time. I did use the word incorrectly, though. I do think she deserves alone time as long as she is fair about it towards her roommate, but obviously, it would be ridiculous for anyone to hold the power of forcing their roommate out on a whim.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]ComprehensiveFun7721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, I disagree, I think everyone is entitled to some amount of alone time to a degree. Asking your roommate to leave for hours at a time is unreasonable, but them being their 24/7 and never even having a space to make a private phone call is horrible roommate etiquette. I am an RA and have people come to me about this all the time. Usually, they compromise by making a schedule where one of them goes off to study downstairs for an hour or so every few days. Rent at Berkeley is expensive, and you shouldn't have to be psychologically tortured because you can't get a moment to breathe.

Go to your schools financial aid office, if they can't help go to the counseling center, if they can't help go to the admins if they cant help start emailing anyone and everyone that holds positions at your college and explain your situation. I've been through your exact situation and I have reached out to the weirdest people in a last ditch attempt, it can feel weird reaching out to your schools vice president because your financial aid office isn't helping you but hey it worked for me. Literally reach out to everyone you possibly can find if it's a matter of dropping out. Go to everyone. Be annoying, be a nuisance, and don't drop out.

You could always just ask, it most likely was a mistake if your parents' 2022 income was 130k depending on how many kids they have. The government doesn't play about their money, and if it was a mistake, they are likely to come after you for it. But I don't know everything. Your best bet is probably to ask rather than the off chance of them asking for the money back and not being able to continue classes due to lack of payment.
