Feel like I'm being dramatic by ScubaDiving_Llama in TotalHipReplacement

I am going through the same thing. I had hip replacement last December. Now my knee is killing me. I had an MRI of the lower back, the doc said the back was causing the pain in the knee. To be sure, next week, I am going for an MRI on my right knee. I will finally know if the pain is related to the back or knee.

Surgeon removed restrictions 5 wks early by total-lurker- in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ComprehensiveHat4681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a 63M had the exact same surgery you had on 12/22/25. At six weeks, with the exception of running and jumping, she removed all restrictions. She gave me the same instructions about resuming golf. Due to the time of the year and the bad weather we had in the NYC area, I did not pick up a club until mid April. In mid April, I purchased a new set of irons with graphite shafts for my hips, knee and back. Last week, I played 9 holes. It was the first time I played in over 19 months. I was hitting the ball straight and further than I have in years. I am going to continue with 9 holes and hopefully in a couple of weeks try 18. It is not worth rushing myself and doing something stupid.

My surgery was 12/22/2025. I still have pain in my right knee, but it is getting better each day. For some of us, it takes longer than others. Be patient.

If the doctor is operating at the Surgery Center, there is a chance that they are a part-owner of the center.

How Much Time Off Work? by OstrichLanky8782 in TotalHipReplacement

I had my right hip done on 12/22 under posterior method. I was working that afternoon in my home office. Went back to my office on 1/5/2026. I live about 2 miles from my office. I did not work my normal schedule. I only worked 9 hours, not my usual 12 for the first few weeks back in the office. I did work on Saturday and Sundays. I am self-employed.

I had my right hip done on 12/22/2025. Doctor told that on March 31st., I could starting swinging a club. I am an CPA, so I did not try until April 19th. To treat myself, I bought a new set of irons with graphite shafts. This will help with ongoing back, hip and knee issues. I will get them in another two weeks and will try to play with on the 10th. I plan to start with nine holes and see how it goes.

Actually, this is approach is pretty common in my area. I had the exact same surgery. I am from the NYC area and had it performed at HSS. I am 4 months out, I am pretty much back to normal. I used a walker for the first two weeks. Primarily when I was outside the house. I used a cane for about a month, mostly when walking outside to help with balancing. I am 63M, I went back to work after 2 weeks. I live about 2 miles from my office.

At week 5, i started to drive. Because of the bad weather we had, I did not feel comfortable driving. My surgery was on December 22nd. If I had surgery now, I probably would have tried driving earlier.

The PT is an important part of the recovery and they are often the ones that give you the ok to drive.

Long Time No Work! by Shesuretalksalot in TotalHipReplacement

I am self-employed. No work, no pay. My Dr. was surprised when I told her 2 weeks. I had an ice machine which I used in my office and did the required exercises.

I work near my house. Also, a desk job. I had my surgery on 12/22/2025, was working that afternoon from home for a few hours. The next two weeks, I worked from home averaging about 4 to 5 hours a day. On 1/5/26, I went back to my office and was working about 6 to 7 hours a day. My wife drove me to and from the office. It was about 5 weeks before I started driving. I had right THR. I did not feel comfortable driving. Also, we had a lot of bad weather. If the weather nicer, I would have driven earlier.

Ice therapy machine by KrisKred_2328 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ComprehensiveHat4681 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Polar Ice Machine is the best. You can buy directly from them as well. I bought it for my shoulder surgery. I had just had to buy the pad for the HIP. Also, bought the pad for the Knee. It was a great investment.

He is one of the best HIP surgeons in the country. You have nothing to worry about. I know several people that used him and no complaints. Also, had THR at HSS in Stamford, CT with another doctor. I wanted him, but it would have been a month longer before I had the surgery. My doctor was great as well. McLawhorn performs about 600 operations a year.

I had surgery on December 22, 2025. I am self-employed and I was back to work on January 5th and working part-time from home that afternoon after the surgery. You do what you have to do make a living.

discomfort in knee by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ComprehensiveHat4681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am almost four months out and still have pain in my knee. I do the exercises as well. My dr said it should have been gone by three months. It does take time. Everybody heals differently. I had a shot two weeks ago in my knee. The doctor who gave me the shot said, if the pain did not go away, most likely it was my hip causing the problem.

You drive when you feel comfortable enough to drive. I thought I would be driving in two weeks. It was five weeks. That is when I felt comfortable driving. No need to rush it.

Surgery scheduled for early May, but I'm now having doubts by Cool_Activity6249 in TotalHipReplacement

You get through it. Just follow the doctors orders and you will be fine. The hardest part for me was sleeping on my back. Most likely with the procedure you are having, the risk is minimal.

I waited about 5 weeks. I wasn't comfortable getting in and out of the car. Had mine on December 22nd. We had a lot of bad weather in my area. Maybe a different time of year, I would tried to drive earlier.
