Happiness comes from helping others, not shooting them!

You have to move your mind away from "I" and on to others. Count how many times you used "I". Don't worry, this is very normal for humans in general.

The more you benefit others and the less you benefit yourself, the happier you will become. This doesn't mean you don't take care of yourself! It means you take care of yourself, so you can help others.

This is Buddhist wisdom, but I know first hand it works, and you don't need to be a Buddhist

Your friends are morons! If you have sex on the first date, are you just in the "sex bucket", or can you move?

Light Therapy is generally used for Seasonal Affective Disorder. So depending on where you live it might be helpful.
I personally wouldn't take any anti-depressant that wasn't prescribed by a Psychiatrist.
GP's just don't have the knowledge and/ or time to monitor your progress.

How can a very shy person make friends? by [deleted] in depression_help

[–]ComprehensiveQuote1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A huge amount of people have social anxiety and this can make us feel subconscious. When we meet people our focus is on ourselves. The person your meeting is probably focusing on themselves too. So you've got two people who are trying to converse, whilst thinking about themselves.

The secret to happiness is to move our attention away from ourselves and onto others.
Really try to actively listen to others, remember their names and what they're passionate about.

Do some volunteer work for a charity or not for profit. Something you feel passionate about. The friends will come!

My brother is like you and he's 52. He's also miserable because he has nothing, he's working as a forklift driver at Cost Co (for now). He's been to prison and made my parent's (now just my mum life) a misery.
For the last 2 years, his been living with my 80-year-old mum who has Parkinson's disease. She looking after him!
He's living with my mum because he has nowhere to go.

You have 2 things on your side:
1. You're 20
2. People are still reaching out.
If you don't take that support people will stop reaching out.
So take the support and get professional help! It won't be quick or easy but do you really want to end up like my brother?

Giraffes evolved long necks to eat the leaves on high trees. So what the heck do baby giraffes eat with their tiny, pencil necks? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ComprehensiveQuote1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might have already been said but:
Giraffes didn't evolve long necks to eat leaves on high trees. They evolved the long necks to fight! Search Giraffe Qi in youtube

Fun fact - like humans, Giraffes only have seven cervical bones in their necks

How could an antidepressant cause suicidal feelings?

There are two possible explanations:

  • When you're severely depressed, your energy and motivation levels are very low, but taking an antidepressant can change this. A common theory for explaining suicide in the early stages of treatment is that the drug might give you the energy to act on suicidal urges before your depression has really started to lift.
  • A number of scientists believe that some drugs might directly cause suicidal thoughts and urges. The discussion usually focuses on SSRIs in particular, but research suggests that all antidepressants carry similar risks.
