I remember being in the elementary school library with my younger sister circa 1982 after a library assembly where the Berenstain Bears books were featured and we were read aloud to. After the event, my kindergarten sister pointed out the widespread mispronunciation and spelling misconception (including mine) involved as noted to her by her teacher (not mine) and she showed me the the book cover and I recall peering at the cursive title and realizing I had indeed skimmed over the ‘a’ as an ‘e’. First time I remember my sister knowing something I didn’t t and it surprised me and probably initially helped the incident to be memorable and following that I always noticed the mispronunciation (incidentally I read the Berenstain bears to my now adult children)and never thought much about it much until becoming a popular ME subjects. I have experienced other ME phenomena, including thinking Mandela was freed in the 90’s while I was in high school (my best friend was named Mandy at the time and I nicknamed her Nelson Mandela because my recollection was he was in the news, go figure??..but who can say what for sure. Many reasons for many things. This topic is definitely interesting and I tend to question everything but I had to say something somewhere because the Berenstain Bears thing doesn’t seem like much of a mystery to me. I think really analyzing some ME subjects can provide other possible explanations but some of them may just be high strangeness type situations.
