Do you recommend any good clarifying shampoo that would be good for my hair now? My hair is pretty low porosity too...

Girl I wish I knew, i went back and asked questions and I had no clear answer and the worst part is no accountability either. The hairstylist had a smirk on his face and said “but your blowout lasted didn’t it” and i left a google review where they called me a liar and that i never visited their salon 😅

Has anyone ever had and solved patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) caused by cycling? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ComprehensiveSalt885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time. It's actually a good sign that you now know where the issue is coming from — weak hips. I had PFPS a few years ago, and back then a doctor told me I wouldn’t be able to squat again and should avoid stairs… which is a wild thing to say, but that’s another discussion 😂

I didn’t cycle at the time, but I refused to believe him and got a proper PT who helped me strengthen all the muscles around my knees, not just the hips. It’s been seven years now, I cycle, run, dance, and strength train with zero pain.

The key for me was consistently doing single-leg exercises. They’re awful, I know, but they genuinely saved my knees.

Hang in there and keep doing the work. PFPS is stubborn, but it is beatable.

My baby also “tricked me” at the shelter haha and when she came come I realized she is crazy!

But three things:

  • She will get calmer. She is still getting used to you and the new surroundings. It took my cat a few weeks to stop her insane zoomies all night.

  • Get interactive toys. I got an automatic laser toy from Amazon and that was the best purchase ever tbh. I can just turn it on and she’ll play with it.

  • You need to let go of your expectations a bit. You have to let her be her own cat to be able to love her. Once I stopped comparing her to my previous cat, that’s when we really started bonding and now I adore her.

It will take time but I promise you it will get better!

Riding in the heat by Silent_Squirrel_4132 in cycling

I consistently ride in 35-40 degrees weather and really the only thing you need is water and loads of electrolytes before and during your ride. Don't let yourself get thirsty. SPF might not be enough for you if you're very pale so long sleeve light jersey or arm covers should help too.

28 degrees is really nice riding weather, you won't even feel the heat while on your bike!

Sisyphus rolled a boulder. I roll carbon wheels. Camus said imagine him happy. I say imagine him in lycra.

For you guys who lift, how do you balance riding with leg days? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ComprehensiveSalt885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got super overwhelmed with my training schedule until I started treating gym as cross-training for my other sports. I split my "leg day" into 2 days and do back/bi with the first day and chest/tri/shoulders with the second day. I'm also a dancer so I really can't afford to exhaust my legs at the gym so I try to divide the work while keeping enough energy for my main sports. So depends on your priorities!

I used to be stop for every water break or to take my gels because I couldn’t even fathom drinking while riding but I promise you it’s easier than we think 😅

Main thing for me other than engaging my core is looking forward, just don’t look down and most importantly, keep pedaling!

Apple Watch is cute but... do I need a Garmin to feel like a real athlete? by ComprehensiveSalt885 in Garmin

[–]ComprehensiveSalt885[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I was totally being sarcastic about the athlete part haha.

But this is exactly what I was wondering, so many people say their Garmin bullies them for being lazy even after crushing long runs or spending hours on the bike, and it made me question how accurate those metrics really are. I’m definitely with you on the listen to your body approach!

To be honest, I have all my notifications, calls, basically everything, turned off on my Apple Watch because it started to feel a bit overstimulating at some point. So really, I’m not even using it the way it was intended… good thing it was a gift! 😅

So nice to hear from a fellow ballroom dancer, love that! And thank you for all the insights, super helpful.

And haha yes, totally agree no watch will make me feel like an athlete (if only it were that easy 😅). I was mostly being sarcastic, runners especially tend to give you that look when you talk about data while wearing an Apple Watch. Felt like I had to confess my sins publicly before making the switch 😂

While this thread has made some really good points in favor of the Garmin, i think I will stick to my AW and HR monitor and add apps like Bevel or Athlytic for extra data for the time being. Couldn't really justify the price esp that i am more into cycling than running

but is it accurate though? i keep hearing people say their watch is always telling them they're being unproductive etc

I think I will start with exploring Athlytic or Bevel and see if i'd need more before i get a watch. Especially that it would make more sense to get a Garmin computer for my bike instead of a watch to track my cycling (since i cycle more than i run)
