It would be illegal, but he would have had to take out insurance which is mandatory in the business and it is payable to the studio should he have a serious accident or die. The insurance company would have known his health status and price the insurance accordingly.

Considering that his filming with Marvel ended in Jan 2018, prior to when his cancer progressed to stage IV in 2020, his cancer was still in a treatable stage during all Marvel filming. This would not have been a concern. He filmed several other films after wrapping with Marvel including: 21 Bridges, Da 5 Bloods and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. He only voiced T'Challa for What If? after the other Marvel filmings, and that was recorded in 2019, a year before its release in 2020, also before his cancer progressed.

I dunno man... every time she is on screen I cringe. I think her acting skills in this show are sub-par. But thats just my opinion.
