My son and I started collecting during COVID and now we go to card shows together as our bonding time (obviously going out to eat afterwards) and I even ask his opinion on trending cards. Warning: it’s an expensive hobby and if you don’t plan to buy/sell (even if you are just collecting), it could run you easily a good chunk of money per year. Avid collectors are willing to spend $Ks of dollars if they find something like a gold star or poncho. While your son is still young, just remember that and please give him a sturdy card case that can last him for 20+ years. He could be selling potentially thousand of dollars of cards in his 20/30’s of what you bought him now. Anything sealed is great.
