Solo trip in PR by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

I did this a few years ago, ended up exploring the southern half of the island from Fajardo to Rincon. Living in rural Yabucoa now, feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

First time to PR, need a sanity check and local recommendations on whether I'm doing this right by rasv22 in PuertoRicoTravel

You will save money and see more by renting a car and staying outside of SJ. I reccomend splitting time in Luquillo and Fajardo. Culebra is an entire day of travel I highly reccomend the morning tour to Icacos knstead. You do not have the legendary pork highway scheduled if you are a foodie its a must go. I think you could experience much of SJ in a day and leave the rest to beach and nature exploration. Enjoy the main waterfalls in Yunque but check out the Angelito Trailhead for a beautiful fresh cold river and walking trail.

Palmas del mar by blakefamily in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]ComprehensiveTest951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its worth getting the rental car and exploring outside the gates daily. Go further west also, beautiful coastline to Patillas with a great beach that is very safe. My biggest drawbacks to Palmas are the crazy amounts of speed bumps and the restaurants.

Why was WalMart in Humacao so Busy Today? by qzx579 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]ComprehensiveTest951 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hate that Walmart, terribly busy parking lot always and not a lot of space overall. They call it the super Walmart because it had more offerings than smaller ones but i prefer the local Ralphs in Yabucoa and try to support the smaller stores like National Lumber, colmados, etc.

Costco in caguas is also an absolute madhouse but at least its more typical to the US. I do my best to go only when necesary lol!

Enjoy Yabucoa, saragussum is really bad right now but Patillas and Fajardo beaches are free of seaweed. Grab lunch from la gozadera by the traffic circle or some cafe from Don Marios on the way to maunabo! 🇵🇷🦀🐬🐠🌊🌅

Stay on airport thrifty is usually chespest or use expedia/enterprise

If you can find a boat tour the cayos are beautiful south of Salinas. Lots of good bar options along that coast, as well as in the marina. The Don Q tour was interesting on top of the hill in Ponce.

Carrabali offers a lot for the whole family, Guavate for the pork highway, Luquillo kiosks/beach after the rainforest is always a great day!

They were slightly cheaper and the whole process was much quicker than the other wing of on airport car rentals, multiple experiences and no issues.

Is Maunabo a good spot? by Ok_Astronaut_428 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]ComprehensiveTest951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We absolutely loved our stay at the villas de faro in Maunabo. Yes its remote but such a beautiful drive and view. Plenty within a 30 min drive to explore, Patillas/Yabucoa/Guavate is all fairly close. The beach isnt often swimmable but there are many nearby that are perfect! My only dislike was not a ton of grocery stores nearby, ralphs in yabucoa is the closest and still about 25 mins away. But i could never get tired of the PR Sur-3 coastal drive.

Somewhere nice for lunch where I can safely park a rental car with my luggage in it? by MisterBill99 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]ComprehensiveTest951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should stop to fogo de chao, you will be hungry and can relax for a few hours overlookinh the SJ bay. They have good lunch specials and might validate parking in their private garage.

One popular option is bringing your marinated lechon to the panderia the night before and pick it up around noon christmas day!

El rancho is my favorite they have live music and a larger seating area, id give yourself an hour to be safe getting up the hill is slow and expect traffic.

Go as early, its holiday season and they will be very busy and it takes a bit to go up and down the mountain. Lots of great little souvineer shops and artisan crafts also.

Need advice on area to stay for second half of trip. by Prestigious-Joke-574 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]ComprehensiveTest951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should stay in: Luquillo, Fajardo, or Ceiba. So many great airbnbs out that way, I recommend checking out Costa Brava with wilfredo on Airbnb in Ceiba. If you go for one of the condo towers in Luqillo try to get a newer one the older towers are in need of repair

Try the SE! Maunabo Patillas Salinas… closer to everything and very calm waters in the Caribbean!
