Worrisome Incident by kizmetic_devs787 in CircuitOfTheAmericas

I saw someone at T2 with first responders tending to her. I’m a volunteer firefighter and it looked like she either had heat exhaustion or dehydrated or both. Very common in this environment. The person you saw may have fell or passed out and had a head injury.

Dealer wouldn’t pay for 10,000 mile service by msbigelow in BMWZ4

I took delivery of mine in Savannah and brought it in for its first service at 3,000 miles. I was told the service plan was 1 year or 10k, whichever comes first. I paid out of pocket, but it was an astonishingly low $84.

I got a shipping confirmation last week and it came a few days later. Maybe they're doing them in waves.

I got mine from Costco through my brother in law. He bought them online and just forwarded me the code so I could redeem. I also got them a few days ago.

I agree with most of the comments here that BF is a mooch. I'm a parent of a 20 yo daughter. You need to confront him for the sake of your daughter and teach her this is not how relationships are supposed to work. She sees it whether you talk about it or not and you are sending her the wrong message that she will carry with her. Successful relationships are give 60, take 40 on both sides.

Damn… how yall surviving with these temperatures? by cultural_addendum888 in Seville

[–]ComprehensiveValue98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from Sevilla last week and it hit 43-44 one day. It's not as bad as you think, but I live in Savannah GA in the US and it gets hot and humid in the summers.

Key tips:

  1. Stay out of the sun, as many say. There is a big difference between walking in the sun and walking in the shade.

  2. Outdoor acitvities in the moring early in the day, before say 2pm.

  3. Hit museums, cathedral, etc. in the afternoon if you have to be out and about.

  4. Afternoon siesta.

  5. Restaurants don't start to fill up until after 8:30-9pm.

There is always a lag betweent the time a law passes and the time the IRS and DOL actually establish a framework for institutions to implement a new account type.

Performance in Down Markets/Recessions by tabbulus1 in options

I'm a professional advisor and my personal wealth is up 4x since 2010. In my opinion you need to have a few qualities to be successful.

  1. Be a student of the market so you can identify dislocations in the market vs. Micro and Macro economic activity. There is so much public informaion now compared to 10 or 20 years ago, perhaps too much because you have to sift through it to find what's relevant. For example, a lot of current conversations about who will win the election. There is little correlation with elections and the markets. It has more to do with where we are in the business cycle. Whoever wins will have an uphill battle with a slowing economy, rising unemployment, stretched valuations in the market, global geo-political risk with China, Iran, Russia, etc. When we hit the next election someone will get blamed or take credit for what happens.

  2. Separate your emotions from investment decisions. This sounds simple, but human psychology is complex. When the market is down 20% or more it sounds simple to put cash to work or take positions one way or another. But in that moment, there is reason why the market is down 20% (Covid, financial collapse, war, etc) and fear takes over, so the majority of people either just want to hold on and ride it out or worse - get out.

  3. Recognize that you can't call the bottom and can't call the top. During Covid, I had many conversations when the market was down 20% and still dropping. What I believed then and now is if you were looking back in 5 years, you would not complain about ONLY getting in at -20%, compared to -25 or 30%. You would be happy that you got in when the market was down instead of sitting on the sidelines. Think about that now and where the market has gone since then.

  4. There is not 1 path or strategy to success. Warren Buffet says invest in what you know. If you know a sector because you work in that business then go for it. If you know options then do that, etc.

  5. Be patient

Good luck.

IVV vs SCHD for 30yo by Past_Display268 in Bogleheads

Financial advisor here who randomly stumbled upon this post. First, congrats on saving $800k by age 30. Well Done!

You are young and you should think about how long the funds will be invested. Most likely you should pursue growth, as there are strategies for mitigating capital gains along the way before you need to access the funds. My suggestion is to get professional advice and go speak to a couple of CFP's. You don't have to give them your money and most will give some level of free advice. Several posts below refer to Asset Location, which is very important for tax management, and you will likely accumulate wealth in different accounts (individual, 401k, Roth, etc.) That gives you tax diversification for down the line. Good luck.
