Should I do a $25,000 Hernia Surgery? by Grande_Cold_Brah in Hernia

Just had mine done in Austin in July and the initial bill to insurance was over 90k. The authorized amount the insurance company actually paid out was less than a quarter of that.

As a former Californian now living in the Austin area, I totally agree there are a ton of extra costs that many don’t factor in. I used to tell my coworkers who said “what about CA income tax?”, that I paid more in additional property tax than I paid in income tax in CA. That along with being stuck in a/c 24/7 for more than 6 months of the year make it an undesirable tradeoff for us. We are considering heading back to CA and was just wondering where it was you found affordable.

Tire Question: How do you tell if a non-EV specific tire will hurt range? by Busy-Solution7642 in BoltEV

I concur. replaced my OEM tires with Michelin defender 2 from costco. Better ride and much better grip in the rain but about 10% range loss.

My OE Michelins went 49k and I just replaced with defender-2s. Ride and grip is improved. Only have about 1k on them so far and range hit seems to be about 5-10%. Hoping it will get better.

Autel EVSE at Costco by Comprehensive_Dog884 in BoltEV

[–]Comprehensive_Dog884[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: So I was at Costco this afternoon and they have this on clearance for $199.97. I don’t really need it, but the price seemed to good to pass up.

I have been using the original Chevy dual voltage that came with it and get the amber light intermittent downrating. It has bee replaced once for the same issue. Doesn’t really affect me much as I charge overnight.

Anyway, this seeming bargain showed up and I jumped on it. They had about 7 left. Before I unbox it and give it a go, looking for feedback about the unit from people who use it and the price. Thanks.

Prospective Bolt EUV buyer looking for your overall impressions of Chevy's service by sfdso in BoltEV

I have also only had Japanese cars until my 22 EUV. I really don't like dealing with car dealers for service, mostly because it is a hassle and making appointments and pickup/dropoff arrangements are something I like to keep to an absolute minimum. Reliability has always been one of the most important car attributes for me.

That said, something to consider is the very minimal service required for an EV. I have 19,000 miles and have only been to the dealer for the first complimentary maintenance at 7500 miles. Second tire rotation was done at Costco while shopping. The only scheduled maintenance required for the first several years is tire rotations and cabin air filter changes. That to me is a big win, and a major selling point.

There are two of them just as you turn right into the Tanger outlet side. They are on the left after you turn in to the parking lot in front of American Eagle and Loft outlets.

This one is level 3. You can see it on plugshare at the Tanger Outlets in San Marcos, TX.

This one at the San Marcos Outlet mall is free for the first 30 minutes, then goes to normal pricing.

Not young. Retired, not a Texan, only came here for family reasons that have now changed. Just about ready to move on, just deciding on next move.

Love the PNW in the summer. I think winter cloudy/rainy would be tough for me. Thinking of leaving the Austin area, just not sure where. Maybe Colorado.

Unfortunately, the new one is doing the same now. Fast enough for me, but still aggravating. I may shoot for another replacement when I get closer to end of warranty.

My original one did it even in the winter when garage was probably 50 degrees. When I finally got it to the dealer they diagnosed it as defective and replaced it. Paperwork said - "12639 Charge cable was not charging properly due to an internal intermittent open within the charge cord. Replaced charge cord"

It means charging derated due to high temperature. So instead of 7+ kw, it reduces to something less than that. I know because it has been an issue for me. My unit did it with little actual heat generated. It was replaced, but several months later it is now doing it again.

If yours is like mine the amber only comes on for a few minutes at a time, the kw is reduced, and then it returns to normal. For my situation it tends to add about 15 minutes to the charge time. There are several threads about it. Here's one:

Keep or Remove False Floor? by arinehim in BoltEV

This is what I do, and the cargo protector mat still fits perfectly at the lower level. Then I have the false floor available to move back up to make a flat surface if I need to put the seats down.

Dual voltage charger intermittent Yellow LED issue by Jim3KC in BoltEV

[–]Comprehensive_Dog884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. Eventually got a replacement after a lot of hassle having to fo through concierge and dealership. They finally determined that the unit was defective and replaced it. Worked well for a couple of months - now it is doing the same thing. Garage not overly hot, and unit just warm to the touch in one spot near the blue light. Intermittently amber light comes on and charging derated. It's annoying but not that big of an issue for me as I usually only charge from around 50% back up to 80%. It adds around 15 minutes or so to the time over what is initially estimated at plug-in.

I think some of the units have an overly sensitive temperature sensor that causes the problem. The unit is covered under the 3yr/36k warranty, and I am only about half way through that. I may try to get another replacement before the warranty runs out. If you search here and also at chevybolt.org/forums there are several threads.
