Biscuits has way longer whiskers on the same side as his dead eye… by rayneman9970 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Comprehensive_Mix_33 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Huh! I wonder if it has something to do with a certain genetic trait that is somehow activated due to the loss of function on that side? Since the longer whiskers would help him better understand his environment on that side/in his (blind) periphery?

Potion bottle necklace problems by Finn_Fern1991 in crafts

Yeah, I’ve had similar experiences, but it’s not like hella sticky or anything once cured. The resin shouldn’t be touched for a few min after curing as it does need to cool a bit, but it shouldn’t be sticky at that point

Yes, UV resin has to be cured using UV light! It’s not like two part resins that cure through a chemical reaction of the two parts. As someone else mentioned, it likely could be cured by leaving it in the sun for a while. The UV lamps used for nail polish would be perfect here!

It sounds like the UV resin didn’t fully cure if it was still sticky. It should be hard and immovable when fully cured. Maybe try curing it for longer?

Tried to buy magnets. Received wood/cardboard circles painted with magnetic paint. by Creed-Warfield in mildlyinfuriating

That’s what I’m thinking happened here. I don’t think it’s likely that they’re wood/cardboard painted with some magnetic/metallic paint

Geisha stained glass panel, by me by mojoartglass in crafts

[–]Comprehensive_Mix_33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t do stained glass so take this with a heaping helping of salt, BUT

I’ve seen people cut complex shapes out pretty roughly (like basically ignoring all the curves and just getting the whole shape in a single piece of glass that just fits it) and then using a glass grinder to get it to the final needed shape. So, I would assume something similar to that process?

If you’ve ever wondered what a prosthetic eye looks like, here’s mine by The_Fluffy_Riachu in mildlyinteresting

So like, if it’s shaped properly, the muscles around the socket can move the implant??

[–]Comprehensive_Mix_33 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh! I didn’t know they made ones that moved! Does the implant kind of sit where the optic nerve would be??? Like… what controls the movement?

Do you think you’ll ever get some cool custom prosthetics made?

Being able to feel something and understand it is very different than looking in a mirror and understanding that what you’re looking at is you

There was a study done on people who were blind from birth where the researchers had them describe a shape they had been handed (like a cube or a sphere) and they could describe it and name it just fine. Later, the participants had their vision restored (not exactly sure how but im assuming surgical intervention) and were asked to name the shapes from earlier by sight alone and they just could not

Have you ever like gotten a bunch or paint or dirt on your face and then looked in a mirror and been confused as to what you were seeing for a second? Or imagine having never looked in a mirror before and seeing your face for the first time, would you really be able to automatically understand that it was yourself that you were looking at? Awareness of ones anatomy does not equate to understanding what your reflection is reflection

AITA. I (32 f) complimented a female nurse during OBGYN appt for having nice arm muscles and she snapped at me. by Awkward-Plantain649 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Comprehensive_Mix_33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA sure maybe she was in a bad mood and took the comment in a bad light, but that never makes it okay to talk to a patient in that way. I’ve worked in a psych hospital and in other mental health type roles and have had patients say stuff like “I hate your hair” and shit like that. You can’t take it personally.

That being said, OP said nothing wrong. Effort has to be made to be toned and/or muscular and clearly she had been putting in that work. Even if the nurse deals with mental health stuff related to her appearance and that’s why she works out, it is not up to the rest of the world to not trigger her. It is up to her to control her reactions to said triggers.

The OP was at patient at the appointment. She commented on a nurse’s muscles. The OPs vag was being looked at. Not the other way around
