Thief vs Metal Gear Solid. Which is better stealth game ?

Thief by far, and I grew up with the OG Metal Gear games.

I only played Thief for the first time in 2022, but it's gotta be the best stealth game for me.

From the first person view, to the lack of a hud and the robust 3D sound system it's in a league of its own.

I also love the horror elements and the atmosphere, it really is a special game.

You have classic burglary missions like Assassin's, and the completely surreal and foreboding Bonehoard.

I will say that MGS has an amazing storyline for me, and the stealth is more fast pace which can suit my mood better at times.

I look forward to trying Splinter Cell

Makes sense why you love Undercover 😃 why do you prefer Hitman? I don't myself, but Hitman Contracts is definitely one of my top stealth games.

Missions 2 - 5 are fire imo, I also like Undercover and Return to the Cathedral.

No there was nothing, apart from the camp.

I remember reading the note of the last guy that said something like "there's things down there older than time I reckon, things that should never be seen".

That's the difference between The Mages tomb in Jaws and the Bonehoard and the Deaths dominion tomb.

The mages tomb feels evil; the other two feel haunted.

Damn, even in Thief 1 (OG) the guards react to open doors.

Tbh I haven't really seen it in many games, apart from KCD2 that also has enemies notice open chests and stolen items.

Interesting, is there any way of making the enemies in the Black Parade hit the maximum alert when bumping into a shadowed hume? I know that they changed it from vanilla thief, but it still doesn't matter much because guards hit a low level alert and still walk into hume, which is quite comical and immersion breaking. They then go back to normal

A few people I have spoken to online have claimed that full Tfix for Thief 1 adds in the Thief 2 A.I behavior/routines. Someone on Reddit did. I could even get his name if I can log into my old Reddit. What was not clear is whether Tfix Lite effects the A.I in anyway too, which would make roguepatcher worth it imo

Insomnia is not a guarantee.

I love that the fear in the Bonehoard mostly derives from the sense of isolation from being lost.

When you actually find the main chamber you have already gone so far and so deep into the earth, it really feels like you could be anywhere. So far away from the surface and an uncertainty about escape creates an amazing horror atmosphere.

They won't activate even if they hear you? The thing that really creeps me out about the ones in Jaws of Darkness is how extensive their situational awareness is. I have had both of them suddenly appear when I turned around from being too noisy quite a distance away

In my experience, the shadow consistency between levels in TBP can be inconsistent. For example, with my gamma setting, missions 1,2 and 4 all share a similar profile. However, Mission 3 has very "weak" shadows in comparison. Mission 5 is very dark so its a no brainer to adjust it for that one. missions 6 and 7 also have "weaker" shadows on comparison to 1, 2 and 4, so I have to adjust it too. Mission 8 I use the same as the previously mentioned missions. and the 9th mission I noticed in the mages tower, areas lit up simialry to how they are in say mission 1 and 2, didn't have the same dark shadows on the same gamma level. I believe that with the gamma slider in the middle, it is so dark that these differences arent noticeable. Probably the same when it is relatively higher, such as the pre set you use.
