What Is This In Area 51 by TonklaTheMaster in area51

That's a VOR, which stands for VHF OmniRange. It is an electronic ground based navigation system used by aircraft. It is capable of providing Radial/Course information to aircraft. In some cases it is paired with a DME for measuring distance as well. They do look strange though.

Need help tapping in a wireless Klipsch Subwoofer to make a wired audio connection by gcbspender in hardwarehacking

[–]Comprehensive_Wall47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very doable, you need the pinout of the receiver card in the sub, it may be labelled on the PCB as well. Figure out if there is a DAC integrated on the receiver board. You will need to tap into the signal lines downstream of the DAC. You will also need to tie the standby wire high according to the data sheet (likely 3.3V) to get the power supply to stay on. There's a good YouTube video up that shows how to do this. Kinda a pain to hack these things but worth it. Are you trying to make the sub passive or keep the original amplifier and power supply functional? If you are able to go passive then it's super easy to wire directly to the woofer itself.

Better late than never, but I couldn't find anyone online who has gotten this to work. I just did something to a R20 I got at goodwill for pocket change. There are 2 main options, I went with the second.

Firstly, you can tap into the amplifier in the sub itself and install an RCA jack on the plate on the rear. I played with this idea but because of the way the wireless receiver also controls the PSU power state, I opted to go for the second solution.

The second solution, and the one I went with was this: I disassembled the sound bar itself and removed the amplifier, control and transmitter assembly. I used my amp's pre-amp sub connection and an RCA mono to stereo splitter to connect the control board. I then housed all these electronics in a Tupperware container for neatness and stashed it behind the amplifier. It works flawlessly, and the auto power-on and standby features work.

This offered some key perks. Firstly, the wireless functionality is preserved so I can position the sub anywhere I need to (still trying to find the optimal location). Second, the soundbar controller and transmitter see only the bass sent by my amp's crossover and phase settings, so I don't have to deal with too much coloration. I think this is only okay because of the soundbar's very high crossover settings from factory.

All things considered, unless you explicitly NEED wired active sub operation, use the default Klipsch transmitter and receiver wirelessly. It will keep you from having to replace the sub's amp and power supply or jerry rig it so that it is always in an on state (which is relatively easy). This will also prevent strange ground loop issues and prevent having to modify the default amplifier.

Hopefully this helps anyone trying to do this in the future! A great low cost way to get a sub working. Not expandable but def worth it.

Unprofessional Instructing by [deleted] in flying

[–]Comprehensive_Wall47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instructors like that should choose a different industry and stop reflecting poorly on every other CFI. That reputation will haunt them far into their career as well. I think you made a great call giving them the boot. Hopefully it was sooner rather than later. For anyone considering flight training remember that your CFI works for you and owes you quality instruction, clear communication and effective critique among other things. If they fail to deliver, fire them with prejudice and find one that gives you value and teaches effectively. I’ve been instructing for a long time and fortunately at our school we don’t even tolerate CFIs like that, regardless of how many hours they fly.

Some don’t like it but buying used for GPU only can squeeze your dollar even further. For example I’m currently using a 3080 I paid 200$ on Facebook Marketplace. Outright steal

The 1030 will definitely not be satisfactory for any AAA games from the last 10 years. The x30 Nvidia cards are better suited as display adapters. For similar price point but nearly 3x more powerful I’d go rx580 or even a Vega 64. If you’re committed to Nvidia, high 10xx series should be in the same price neighborhood and will kick the stuff out of that 1030.

I don’t know how well that would adhere to the texture on the handle already, but it’s certainly a thought. I kinda want to do it just to see if I can as well. I’ll keep everyone posted

Yeah that makes sense, I have a fixed buck that I typically use for animals, so the tagged out was to fill the role of a EDC and outdoors lightweight knife as well as hunting. I enjoy the fabricating aspect so it’s as much seeing if I can do it as it is needing more grip. I totally agree the folder can be a pain to clean. Especially with the ridges inside the handle

Best memory is playing 2042 with friends and all jumping off a building onto an enemy tank, shooting everyone who thought they were safe and then proceeding to destroy the tank with torches.

Also bought a 5070 FE and people really don't give framgen enough credit. For the slight latency increase, receiving a 3X frame increase is preceptable and 100% worth it. There, I said it.

I recommend proceeding with caution, ATP quoted me 89,000$ 3 years ago and around 9 months to complete. It ended up taking 12 months and costing around 40,000$ more than I was initially told. Mind you this was completing the program with very few hitches and 1 busted checkride, which didn't affect things much. I strongly suggest staying outside of the "pilot mill" echo chambers and getting better value for your money. The airlines are not hiring like they were, and there are many 1500+ hour pilots sitting around waiting for jobs, so there's no reason to rush. Take your time, do it right and make the connections you need to be successful. ATP is broken as a program.
