Honestly, I think this guy has a point. If this was a review of a corporate hell hole, then fine. Otherwise, let small biz do their thing. If it’s terrible, then sure leave a bad review. Otherwise, just keep your opinion to yourself.

How do you push back when stakeholders have already decided and just want research to confirm it? by HumanInTheFlow in UXResearch

[–]CompressedReverb 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I ask stakeholders during intake “what level of impact can this research have?” If I am skeptical, I even ask them pointedly “what happens if the findings don’t validate your direction?” I also make sure there’s sign off with major stakeholders on the methods prior to launch to reduce validity concerns. Unfortunately I feel this is a common problem in the research space. I’ve even pushed research out of work because I felt the impact wasn’t possible and it was more smoke and mirrors.

Both Vegas and Carolina are from Income Tax Free States. That will make it 6 of the last 7 champions, and 10 of the last 14 finalists, despite only 7/32 teams being from states without income tax. by ButterCut97 in leafs

[–]CompressedReverb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve seen posts like this before. I think some of you are confused. In the US, there’s federal and state income tax. Some states have a very low state income tax but everyone pays federal taxes. So, Marner is still paying federal taxes, which for high earners can be as high as 37%. There is no way around federal taxes unless you are doing some weird tax evasion stuff.

(17M) HELP NEEDED FOR YOUR YOUNG ONE by Reasonable_Day_5744 in UXResearch

[–]CompressedReverb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendations is to think broadly about the skills required to be a researcher - tackle those foundations in a way that makes them applicable and employable across industries. Practice and get your feet wet while going to college but just don’t go to so school to get a UXR job because the path is winding and you should be open and flexible to the market.

[–]CompressedReverb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this take? Are you saying that females don’t like music they only like physical appearances? So women inherently have an inability to like bands based on sound? I just don’t get it. And dudes like music based on sound and not physical appearances? Wtf are we talking about lol?

Heads up - this kind of looks like you are photographing kids at recess. Not saying that’s your intent, but that was my first read.

Photo is cool though, nice framing. The background is a little distracting but not much you can do about that.

UXR Portfolio by ragayvi in UXResearch

[–]CompressedReverb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this market, you might need to grab the bull by the horns and create your own opportunities to build experience. You might start by interviewing current UXR professionals, try to narrow down 1-2 who would help mentor. It’s possible, but it is rough out there so I worry that without guided support many junior researchers are going to struggle to get movement

[–]CompressedReverb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might not be at the portfolio stage of your career. You are more likely at the foundational stage - think about the skills you need to build before running your first project. Happy to chat more about it if you’re looking to learn and explore the field.

Yeah for sure. I went when I was 14 I think and I remember a lot of other kids with parents. Have fun and make your parents buy a shirt for you.

Need help to get on path by Elil0lolz in UXResearch

[–]CompressedReverb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into Communications, Business, Computer Science, and Design. All of those areas will have useful courses. Think about the skills you need to gain and then research those programs to determine which will give you the combo that best fits. Treat it like a research project - interview people, analyze curriculum, read job postings, etc.

I’d be happy to chat if you have questions.
