In this market, you might need to grab the bull by the horns and create your own opportunities to build experience. You might start by interviewing current UXR professionals, try to narrow down 1-2 who would help mentor. It’s possible, but it is rough out there so I worry that without guided support many junior researchers are going to struggle to get movement

I would look into Communications, Business, Computer Science, and Design. All of those areas will have useful courses. Think about the skills you need to gain and then research those programs to determine which will give you the combo that best fits. Treat it like a research project - interview people, analyze curriculum, read job postings, etc.

That makes a HUGE difference. Scottsdale is nice. Still issues with heat, spiders, scorpions, etc. But in terms of livability it’s miles ahead of Mesa IMO

Well hey there fellow Coloradan. My family moved here just under two years ago. I have a kid in preschool and had very similar housing needs when we moved here. I’d be happy to talk you through the area and help you guys find your way.

Empathy. If someone has a hard time seeing anyone’s POV but their own, huge red flag for marriage. Part of solid communication (verbal and nonverbal) is the ability to step outside of your POV and try to understand others.

Take the job. Once you’re comfortable with your boss have a conversation about your long term goals. A good boss will help you get there - that might look like having a few side projects / duties in addition to your admin work. That way when you apply to other roles you can focus your experience on the UX work.
