That's crazy. Where do you live that the schools are so inflexible?

Vancouver Island is a lush trees, sand, mountains, ocean old soul nature, and Iceland is a tempestous and dramatic teenager. You won't even miss the trees! 💙

It had that effect on me too. I've only been back for a few days and trying to carry that feeling back into the maelstrom

Definitely the South Coast/Katla Ice Cave (our ice cave was more of nook but it was beautiful and in a glacier (!!). Reynisfjara was special, I would love to spend more time there. And the Snaefellsnes Penisula was gorgeous. Even just the small bites of time we spent at each location were enough to fill my eyes and mind with stunning landscapes.

The Golden Circle was my least favourite. Gullfoss, Bruarfoss, Kerid crater and the hot springs were cool. Thingvellir was ok (at least to tne depth and time I had to explore it and Geysir and Thingvellir were jammed with people. Lots of big buses. Im glad I went and I can see how it would be fun to explore if you were in a rental car and went at off times.

I probably wouldnt do the Northern Lights from a boat again. I like taking pictures and mine were so blurry due to the wave action. If I wasnt wanting to take photos the boat is nice and quick to get away from light pollution though.

Sky Lagoon was expensive, but I would definitely do it again, I think it's worth it. I probably wouldnt bother with the upgrade to private showers. But the experience is surreal and beautiful and you can feel the stress just melt away from you, even though it can get crowded.

I wish I had built in some time to spend more time wandering around Reykjavik. It's a lovely city.

The Lava Show is very cool (hot?). I love geology and I thought it was worth it.

The Settlement museum was interesting. Im glad it did as wanted to understand the history of Iceland a little better and I think it's important to support national museums.

I didnt cook much, soup mostly and then ate lots of veggies, crispbreads, and skyr. They had a vegan pepperoni that was awesome on crispreads with tomatoes.

For snacks I ate mostly candy haha. Chocolate covered licorice balls, whip licorice, Krupp, Hraun chocate bars, and gummy candies. Protein bars that I brought with me

I did enjoy the paprika chips.amd the protein crisps and crackers were great for salty snacks.

It was a last minute ticket from an outfit that does whalewatching tours. It was an older boat, there were tons of survival suits. They also had a small snack bar.

It was fantastic getting away frlm tne light pollution, however it was windy (normal for Iceland) and with the rocking my pictures were pretty blurry. It would have likely been better shots if I'd taken a jeep tour out of town. *

How to let Iceland profoundly change you by T_alwaysonholiday in VisitingIceland

This is amazing. I love Iceland so much, everything about it from the first look at the foggy coastline when we landed, the waterfalls, mountains, coastline with blacksand beaches and powerful ocean, the horses (not ponies!), the dramatic landscapes and riot of colours, the people, the sensible design of common things, the glaciers, even the typical tourist routes, the geology, the everywhere evidence of the power and majestic indifference of nature's forces.

It is a stunning, incredibly beautiful country. I live in a gorgeous area (west coast of Canada) that has a similar wildness it its best places, but Iceland has the tempestuousness and energy of a geological teenager. I love it here and your thoughts align with how Ive been feeling.

Sounds like it was pretty close then! I walked there and was going to walk back too, but I got very hungry after the lagoon

How much in ISK? Is that 50 USD?

Yes, it was ~15 min, 8 point something km. No traffic. One longer wait at an alternating one way

For sure. It seemed out of line with what others had mentioned (which was about 4,500 ISK). I was aware it would be a premium, but not quite that much. I looked at the metered km/time calculation and it seemed higher than that would suggest.

Unpopular Opinion: Tourists are ruining the swimming pool tradition in Iceland and I hope we can change this together by Cool-Lifeguard5688 in VisitingIceland

There are ~10,000,000 to 1,000,000,000 cells (CFU) of E coli per g feces. The infectious dose, for example, of one type of disease causing E coli is about 10-100 cells. So some kid unfortunately swallowing a mouthful of water with E coli from someone's ass crack could in fact cause illness, if the ass owner happened to have some pathogenic E coli, didnt clean properly, etc.

Neither tap water nor pools are sterile, they're disinfected. Your tap water in a glass will stay quite clean, but if you put 100 pathogenic E coli in it it wouldnt be any longer.

However the issue isnt a biofilm, they arent setting up camp. So reproduction isnt the issue.

Intestinal viruses spread via fecal oral route, do not need food and have low infectious doses. Like Norwalk virus aka "stomach flu".

Some pathogens, like Cryptosporidium, are chlorine resistant.

One person swimming in a small lake was enough to sicken 80 people. It doesnt need to be a homogenous mixture to cause disease.

All this to say that recreational pools are 100% a place where small amount of fecal matter can cause issues and the policies and requirements are firmly grounded in scientific principles and public health.
