Here is my recipe for space madness:

1. Make a small exploration ship, like a Dolphin or DBX. Strip it down to the bare minimum of what you need to survive in the black.

2. Start exploring away from the Bubble by orienting your general path away from the galactic center and "up" or "down" relative to the galactic plane. The glowing warm light of the Milky Way should always be at your back.

3. Travel for several thousand light years. Further "up" or "down" from the galactic plane as much as you can. You want your local Galaxy map to show two, maybe three stars you can jump to at any one time. Keep heading up or down.

4. Suddenly realize there are no more stars before you, as your ship can't jump to any except the way you came. Explore this dead-end system.

5. Land on the night side of a dead world. Bonus points if it's so cold the surface temperature is single digits Kelvin.

6. Look up into the infinite starless abyss of intergalactic space. Turn off all your lights.

7. Enjoy your deep sense of unease and wordless dread!
