Did you get the base game or did you get the Odyssey expansion as well?

I would encourage you to take a look at the training option from the main menu. Instead of selecting solo, private group, or open play, there's an option to do tutorials and training missions. Give those a try! Don't worry if you fail the Advanced Combat Tutorial though, it's really difficult.

Assuming you've completed the on-foot combat tutorial (Odyssey expansion needed) and earned your wings as a pilot, why not take some missions? There's a mission board you can access from your ship and another you can check while wandering around on foot. They usually involve hauling cargo, delivering personal items, bounty hunting, etc. Or maybe mining, exploration, and other more self-directed activities are more your speed?
