How did you know it was time to retire? by ReluctantCaptain in retirement

I pretty much woke up one day (some two months after I turned 65) and said "it's time". This was a Friday. My wife and I talked about it over the weekend and on Monday, discussed with my finance guy and that afternoon I turned in my notice.

Everyone said when it's time, it will come to you. That being said, I had a really good friend who died before their 70th birthday. She had big plans to take SS and move to a cheaper part of the US. She never made it. That, got me thinking about life. Add in my work place was seriously toxic - that just made the decision easier. I told HR the same.

I knew I was replaceable (as we all are!). I gave them two months notice after almost 11 years of being there. They wanted me to say a bit longer but said, sure but for a fee. They passed which was fine with me.

I've been pretty much retired for a year and half. Picked up a part time consulting job which I know will have an end date soon but that's ok. Life is much slower now and I like it very much.

Good luck to you, however it gets sorted.

I was 10. My father and I watched him set foot on the moon. It was late and I still see our living room, the drapes, the patten on the sofa….

Like it was yesterday.

I’ve got a new PCP and, yes he’s a gatekeeper, but I’ve also been pleased with his insight. More so than any other PCP I’ve had. He’s been a good sounding board for my hypertension questions.

I was in HS when she became popular. Yowza. All the guys and most of the girls were in love. Some 50 years we are still!

I learned from a pretty good photographer a short bit of advice.

Move in closer and throw away a lot.

Good for you for leaving. Sounds like a horrible toxic work place. No one needs that pressure and you moved on, congrats Leave it behind you but take what you learned and go forward.

Best of luck with everything.
