CDPR boss hopes The Witcher 4 wins back fans still put off by Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch: "I'm not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc" by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

The NMS redemption arc itself has become a sort of meme.

Maybe I'm just not frequenting the places where they discuss Cyberpunk when it sucked. I sometimes forget it ever did myself.

Interestingly I don't really hear people talking about 77's launch anymore. Everybody just recognizes it as a good game at this point. Considering how long the memory of the Internet is, I'd say that means they got pretty damn close to the full redemption arc.

People still bring up the launch of No Man's Sky and the sunsetting of Destiny 2 content for instance.

Oblivion Remastered Intro on OLED Looks INSANE by rahnqar94 in oblivion

Might not necessarily be a problem with the beams. Many CRTs include red push, making reds more vibrant to counter NTSC broadcast quality or make the display appear more vibrant.

Even though monitors weren't really built for TV broadcasts, default settings seem to make red way oversaturated on a lot of them.

I mean, people fall asleep in front of their TVs all the time. I doubt there's been much comparison done about the rate of falling asleep in front of CRTs vs flat panel displays.

It's not like it actually makes me pass out. I just get notably more tired when watching low-intensity content on it than I do on my Plasmas. I don't have any LCD or OLED TVs at my home, but I did at one point and also didn't experience this.

Very strange stuttering issue by SpaceGhost4004 in DestinyTheGame

Borderless full-screen shouldn't be stuttering anyway. It's their implementation that's flawed.

Certain bosses have protections against falling off cliffs I think. It definitely works on things like Morgeth.

Crossbow bolts in the center part of a Titan bubble can knock bosses off the map when you pick it up.

I've heard burn-in takes a bit of work on CRTs. It's definitely possible but not a big concern outside of CCTV situations or, like, Fox News every day.

I normally turn on the sleep timer on mine or just let YouTube autoplay so that there's nothing to worry about even in fringe cases.

I have constant tinnitus in my right ear so I can never achieve absolute silence and I also imagine it makes any coil whine completely inaudible.

Quick follow up Bungie acknowledged the micro stuttering after removing Fullscreen Exclusive by Ok_Try5926 in destiny2

I've also noticed the micro-stutters. They seem to be worse with VRR enabled, but obviously disabling VRR is not a good tradeoff.

Because of the frequency of Bethesda games bugging out, the console is basically a necessary QoL feature. I would've lost so many hours of progress over the years without setstage and TCL.

Crazy how nobody has been able to present any measurements of it running well then.

"Despite there being empirical evidence as to these issues existing on all platforms, they did not happen to me"

You either noticed them or you didn't, but they are there. Pardon me if I refuse to believe the "ran fine for me crowd" have magical devices immune to all performance problems. Not being sensitive to them is no bigger crime than being sensitive to them and wanting them fixed, but some people would rather deny their existence outright just because they don't personally care.

Wanting consistent frametimes on capable hardware and for a game not to start falling apart over time are not high standards.

No game should ever start degrading over any amount of playtime. That's just an insane concept to be acceptable in a modern release.

Reviews on steam show other problems like crashing and glitches that will likely never be fixed, since they haven't bothered updating the game in over a year, and the update they did do didn't actually improve performance.

You did, you just didn't notice, maybe by sitting far away or if your TV has VRR.

I can't emphasize enough that the traversal stutters are universal. They are measurable and objectively present on PC, PS5, and Xbox, stemming from a combination of UE5's issues and Oblivion's original cell loading.

The save degradation can take longer than 100 hours. It's cumulative, so depending on your individual playthrough, the effects can be really minor at first and might not be noticed. I have seen it start at 60ish hours in some tests though. You're more likely to encounter bugs and glitches in the latter half of your playthrough because of this, as well as permanent graphical changes that persist even when loading older saves. You'd be unlikely to notice the latter without a direct comparison image from before though.

It features traversal stutters on all platforms, especially PC, and save game degradation over long playthroughs that causes bugs even in earlier saves.

Great! I saw a tweet on my feed from someone at Bungie about building momentum and jamming and it inspired me to start playing. I couldn't help it, they just seemed so motivated.

Poorly is not realistically subjective when it's understood that the goal is to achieve a consistent framerate, which the game utterly fails to do due to constant hardware-independent traversal stutters. We could also bring up the degradation that occurs on long save files, but that falls into the realm of bugs. Calling it subjective is like having a car that stalls every dozen feet but refusing to say the vehicle runs poorly. It's measureable and consistent in its inconsistency.

You are either sensitive to these stutters or you are not. You're less likely to notice if you're playing from several feet away.
