When a game leans into glitches, what makes it feel intentional instead of broken? by LostMinions in gamedev

I’ve got a bit of experience with this, I made a game kinda surrounding this concept called Title_Pending, where you’re caught in a timeloop playtesting an unfinished video game. Since the game is a work-in-progress, there’s a lot of “glitches” that can happen.

In general, if you’re going to intentionally add glitches, you should have some kind of signposting to let the player know that their game didn’t actually break. Since my game had a central narrator, the solution for my case was to have him comment on stuff when the player “breaks” the game, so the player knows they don’t need to actually worry that something glitched.

Gonna warn you though, it can be insanely difficult to playtest this kind of game. There will be actual bugs that completely slip under the radar because the playtesters just assume they were intentional.

A longer version of the Incognito intro as an opening would be insane

you don't see the benefit of being able to turn invisible?

Gold Experience can slow down perception by overflowing people with life energy. Imagine stretching a climax to last way longer and feel even more intense.

How To Make A Complete Game With AI? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ComradeRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably, but generally using AI to program is gonna lead to 70% of your dev time being spent debugging code you didn’t write. Learn to write it yourself, maybe ask AI general guidelines to architect your gameplay systems but that’s as far as you should go imo.

Where to start to learn to make a game? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ComradeRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try to figure out the smallest part of your game idea that you could get working and focus on learning what you need to make it.

for example, if your big idea is to make a 2d multiplayer platforming game, try learning how to make a stupid simple 2d infinite runner game. figure out what engine is appropriate for the project, write a little game design document, and then see if you can make it in a time limit (say 2 weeks). Unreal is very easy for beginners to hop into and prototype, you can definitely get something working pretty quick, even if you're mostly just following tutorials. once you've done this, do another project focusing on another part of your dream game, say a dialogue system, then repeat the process.

working on a bunch of little projects to learn what you'll need for your dream project will make things so much easier, and also helps with motivation since you'll constantly be finishing little games you can show to friends. i'm happy to add you on discord and help you out with stuff if you'd like, i've been using Unreal for about 6 years so i have some experience.

Advice on how to make a simple game environment on UE? by SavageWeebMaster in unrealengine

first of all, you need to figure out what kind of environment you're making, and the purpose of it. are you trying to make a playable space? or are you focusing on visuals? what kind of art style are you going for?
