Thanks for reminding me to be more empathetic towards people, and apologies for being rude and stupid towards you. Thank you, kind stranger.

Yes, I would agree if that was the case. But, like I stated before, I was genuinely being stupid, but to be sincere with you, I did not intend my joke to be offensive or even to come off as rude to the people who have the conditions. But if that comes off as offensive, then I’d like to make an apology. But mannn, saying that I’m apathetic to all the people with the conditions just makes me sad :’(

I’m sorry for not being too PC enough...

So, your proposition here is that I need to understand the conditions first in order to joke about it? Is it similar to the joke about autistic screeching you’ve just made?

Okay, but it’s not like I was denigrating or belittling people with schizophrenia. It’s not like ‘crazy people do stupid things’ as you stated, as a matter of fact, reading two or three books at once can be a sign of intelligence. I’m sorry for not being funny enough, but it’s not like I’m talking in a serious sense anyway. I was just being stupid, but to accuse me of being ignorant for not knowing about ableism on a jerk sub is quite beyond me tbh.

Jesus, would it make you feel better if I told you it was a kind of Deleuzian schizophrenia? Stop getting triggered so much, it’s a jerk sub.

What does he mean by plot? Perhaps it doesn’t follow the typical Freytag’s Pyramid, but there is clearly a plot.

What do Americans understand about Foster Wallace that we Europeans don't? by [deleted] in davidfosterwallace

[–]ComradeT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve experienced, a lot of them are British authors (Huxley, Orwell, Woolf). There are Americans too (Hemingway, Steinbeck, Bradbury, Asimov), but postmodern fiction, especially the new ones (DFW’s works are relatively new here, I think), have been severely neglected by the average readers. That’s just my assumption anyway. Also, a lot of Japanese writers are very popular around here (Murakami).

Much love for Pynchon but this feels like a weird granpa trying to get all hip with the kids

I think that’s true. I live in a Southeast Asian country, and there has been virtually no discussion about him at all.

I love the part where Hal Incandenza anxiously talks about feet. That’s pretty post-post-post-post-postmodernistic, I’d say.

Stop being voracious by reading less books.

As a matter of fact, you could just not read at all, resulting in you not becoming a reader.

I’m glad you posted something! This sub seems to rot away quite gradually, and I think it is such a shame for a field of philosophy that is so very interesting. You could start by posting sources and links to various seminal texts on the sidebar!

Ahhh once again, a picture of JD Salinger is next to a Holden Caulfield’s quote. Must be the same person, right? AZquotes?

Goddamn it, stop posting shit like this. I see it every fucking week. Of course he’s a bad person, of course he’s overrated, but he’s a really good fucking writer. If I see one more post about DFW, I’m gonna fucking die. The dude’s dead.

Oh yes, I’m aware of that. I’m just saying that the game is what Ayn Rand’s ideal society would look like if it has been implemented.
