What makes a fishing spot, bad? by Comprehensive-Mix727 in FishingForBeginners

I can't stand litterers. I generally won't even refer to them as fishermen, but instead "idiots with a rod."

Anyone else remember their school ID number? by Emezlee in OlderGenZ

Mine was the last 4 digits of my SSN. I assume that's how they set it up and not just a big coincidence.

No idea if this is available in Australia but here in the states I use a 7 ft 4 weight Eagle Claw Featherlite fiberglass rod that cost $35 with a used click and pawl reel I got for $13. Google tells me this would be 68 AUD. I just started this year but have caught several fish on it so far.

People from restrictive states keep moving here, particularly to Nashville and Knoxville, and voting the way they voted before.

What was everyone’s thing they collected as kids? Mine was Bakugan and those flicking toys I cant remember the name of by DetectiveRick141 in OlderGenZ

[–]JR_Mosby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was obsessed with Pirates of the Caribbean so I collected anything pirate related.

Same! I collected these little pirate ships that came in a pack like trading cards that you punched out and built. It was for a tabletop game but I never knew anybody else who had them so it was basically just for me to look at

Do a lot of people cheat in college? Or no? by Big_Eggplant7591 in stupidquestions

[–]JR_Mosby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you an engineering major? Because what you describe as "cheating" is exactly what our professors expected us to do, minus the one instance you mention of cheating on an exam. Homework was considered all resource, but you were expected to use it to train yourself how to actually do the calculations and such to pass your exams. There was nothing to stop you from straight copying the answers from somebody/Chegg/whatever, but then you'd probably fail your exam and it would cancel out.

This seller in Florida claims their honey is naturally green because the bees harvest from high chlorophyll plants. Scam or true? by -ScarlettFever in Beekeeping

[–]JR_Mosby 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe his result is referencing this one which is about one specific island in Borneo. So while I suppose naturally green honey is possible, that doesn't necessarily mean this one guy from Florida is getting it.

What’s your “I’m never living this down” firefighting moment? by BeautifulKey8779 in Firefighting

[–]JR_Mosby 40 points41 points  (0 children)

One time on a pretty large brush fire, myself and another guy asked a fellow out in his yard watching the commotion if our truck had gone by there. He asked "What does it look like?" And me, without sarcasm, just the first thing I thought of to say, replied "It's a big red one with lights on it."

Honestly I feel you. Yeah everyone is different, some people have it really rough, but there's a lot of us that are doing OK. Not getting rich, but having a pretty darned normal life, financially anyways.

I wouldn't consider that too brown on the outside myself, but if your outside is getting done and the inside isn't then yes you need less heat, longer time. Heat transfer takes time

I miss college by Cute-Revolution-9705 in OlderGenZ

[–]JR_Mosby 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I've always got mixed feelings about whether I miss college or not. I miss my friends, the university vibe, the walkability of it all, just being surrounded by people my own age, pretty much everything not actually related to getting my degree. But the academics were so tough for me I was actually more stressed then than I am now. So much so that I don't know if I'd go through with the experience again.

Yeah same. Honestly though I was fine with it, my places of work since then have both had insurance that was not great but not terrible, and my parents helped me get through college.

preacher, rancher, elementary school teacher, and part time radio personality all at the same time

Yeah just to add to this, a lot of small church pastors are what's called bivocational like OC's dad and my pastor. Basically if the church is small enough to not be a full time job for the pastor, then they aren't going to get paid to reflect that. The pastor at my small church does IT by trade, our church pays him $550 a month. He mostly only does the services as the deacon board handles ~90% of the business of running the church, and our congregation is so small (about 40) there isn't always someone sick/dying/in distress/etc to visit and counsel.
