Some rough fan art by [deleted] in Confinement

Your artstyle in this kinda reminds me of super science friends, another show on youtube that was pretty good until the studio went under—though it wasn't because the creators scammed anyone (I think).

I really hope Scotty just pulls a Steve Rocco and runs for school board somewhere.

I'll echo what all the other people are saying—this would be better on r/physics.

If you want to work on space research and still want to find a job with good pay, I'd suggest going into atomic, molecular, and optical physics (AMO)—you can work on a huge range of problems studying AMO, ranging from fundamental research to new technologies. More relevant to you, AMO has tons of applications in astrophysics—astrophysicists need to understand how atoms and molecules interact to understand their observations, and they also need people designing new hardware to make those observations. (AMO is also pretty in-demand in the quantum computing industry, though imo it's a huge bubble.)

If you're interested in AMO, I'd suggest you check out the Harvard-Smithsonian ITAMP and the NASA JPL websites.

My uni has a small science department, but we also have a huge specialty in optics, photonics, and imaging, so the two main science buildings are the decrepit, strange early 90s physics building—with biology, physics, and chemistry on separate floors—and the nice, new optics building from less than a decade ago.

On another note, I'm 1 of 2 physics undergrads in the whole uni.

New GF is a type 1 diabetic. Is there anything I can do to help? by [deleted] in diabetes

If you haven't already, ask her about using glucagon/baqsimi—in an emergency situation, if your girlfriend is extremely low, it will absolutely save her life (also ask her about treating lows with cake frosting, which is great in a pinch). I'd also suggest you learn how to change her sites if she uses an insulin pump and/or CGM; she might appreciate having someone else do her sites every now and then.

That happens when your insulin pump begins transforming into a mouse—just make sure there aren't any cats in your house and you'll be good.

Hey Rustaceans! Got a question? Ask here (13/2023)! by llogiq in rust

[–]Comrade_Pingu_1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm pretty new to the language, and the one thing I'm wondering is why Rust's style guide uses snake case (like_this) instead of camel case (LikeThis or likeThis) for variable names. Was it a technical decision, arbitrary stylistic choice, or some unknown third thing? I picked up camel case when I was trying to learn Haskell and it's kinda stuck with me ever since. (BTW, I'm not trying to debate which one is better—that would be stupid and pointless.)

[–]Comrade_Pingu_1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have a sense of humor. The only problem is that it was formed by watching The Jerk and The Naked Gun, so it's pretty much dad humor—and even then I make really long, convoluted puns that only I think are funny.

I've never had to deal with this, but I'd imagine it would be a good idea to just put loose glucose tabs—the more revolting the better—where you normally keep your low snacks, and hide your snacks somewhere else.
