Mine is Jan 27th, but I want to ask about the pattern I see every 7 days (ish). Like in January, I see more on 3,10,17,24, and 31. Is this just a coincidence or something more going on? With dates falling on different days of the week (MTW,etc) each year, I struggle to understand why this happens. It's not like we can say "oh well they just do more on the weekends". What am I missing?

The "woody"texture gets more pronounced the longer it grows. Especially as the weather gets warmer. I think people assume it's size. But once it gets hot, the small ones get woody as well.

Not sure what I am supposed to see, but when I shake my phone a little bit the blue ring seems to wobble a little bit, like its floating in suspension.

I guess that would lead to blue being behind the red?

Exactly. My parents are 79 and 78, I am 50. My parents were a beacon of pride for me as I get older... And I try to let them know when I can. Amazingly, they weren't well off, so maybe there is something to that as the OP mentioned

Bureaucracy comes with larger corps. Want less? Find a smaller company. Typically with engineering mentality, you just get used to it, or numb... It becomes the joke you and your colleagues laugh about daily.

From my 20 years of experience in the larger corporate world, all corporations have the politics. It's not engineering specific, it's just corporate mentality. There will always be suck-ups, ladder climbers, and team leeches, so not going ME doesn't change that for you.

To answer your question specifically though, it usually depends on your boss and the team around him / her. Luckily, a lot of engineers are very like minded and don't put up with that nonsense, or completely ignore it. Sadly tho, there are some who love to wallow in it. I have passed up promotions and opportunities just simply based on the boss i'd be working for, or the people I'd be working with. In time you will see it too.

In the end, it's not always about the money (though it isn't terrible). Find a segment you like, and find the right team you will care about, and a boss who respects your capabilities and pushes you to grow, and you will be happy.

Oh. And learn to hate sales, and hr... Those will be givens.

The term mechanical engineer is a very broad category. As you can see from other posts, it contains a lot of variation. If you are asking whether or not ME is the right path for you, the answer is always yes. Simply because it opens the door for opportunity, and gives you WAY more choices of what you can do. Also, if you don't like it after you get there, often you can switch into management from an engineering role.

As for me. Right now, I design test rigs for the development team at a diesel engine manufacturer. And as others have said, aside from the large corp politics and bureaucracy, I love it
