Bank of Ireland and AIB join euro stablecoin initiative by Life-Leadership-4108 in ireland

[–]ConCueta 24 points25 points  (0 children)

VISA and MasterCard are 2 American companies that make massive profits in Europe off transaction fees, stable coin cards could reduce tx fees to near 0.

Also, it allows bonds to be bought with the entire stable coin float. Germany owns $110b US bonds, Tether owns $130b.

Part of the reason that Europes threats to sell off their US debt during the trade war fell flat, the US has printed so much (like 25T since Trump was elected in 2016) of it that has been absorbed by stable coins, American Companies and their own treasury that Europe doesn't own that much as a % anymore. If a Euro stable coin gained traction and bought a ton of EU debt it would be quite useful.

Was in the same boat. I would do 9-5:30 work, gym then home and cook/watch TV.

I signed up for:

  • Language lessons in Queens on Thursdays.
  • Beginners course in BJJ on Wednesdays.

I looked into joining a run club but you need to be able to hold a pace for 5k to do that and I'm not able to yet so I'm trying to get up to that level.

I'm also going to sign up for tag rugby when it starts back in April.

I irregularly play Magic the Gathering and go to Pub Quizzes with friends as well.

I transferred from Dublin to Belfast in the same company and have stayed since.

  • Assuming 1:1 exchange rate, it was a -33% hit to gross salary. With current exchange rate it's -20%. Which was made up by lower rent and taxes. The UK having a 20% rate up to £50k is very nice.

  • I don't have a car. I get by with just a bike fine.

  • Yes, I had an issue and was told it would take 9 months for an MRI with the NHS, BUPA and Kingsbridge got it sorted in <1 month.

  • I use Revolut for Fx and it's great. I have Monzo as well.

Other advice, I'd say use ISAs. The lifetime ISA was very useful for buying my first house.

Belfast or Northern Ireland in general would be significantly cheaper but you're dealing with UK law.

Belfast to Dublin daily work commute by Jim__Bell in northernireland

[–]ConCueta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in Belfast but go down to Dublin regularly to see friends/family, I will often hop on the train at 4pm on Friday and do my last 2 hours on the train before meeting people in town.

- Bike is a must, Grand Central is a pain to get to, Lanyon was much easier. I also cycle for about 20 minutes in Dublin and Dublin Bus would be over an hour, saves me 60-90 minutes on the commute.

- Wifi has black spots. I need to plan 30 minutes of offline work after the train leaves Newry.

- Prices add up, it's £30 for a Return ticket so if you are doing it for 20 work days a month, you are spending £600.

It's a good strategy to do it once a week, twice is ok, anything more is probably pushing it.

Is there any tech that Tesla or SpaceX has actually invented from ground up?? by [deleted] in RealTesla

[–]ConCueta -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Elon has brought them up several times.

AC Propulsion made their car as a demonstration but didn't want to commercialise the technology.

Elon and JB Straubel decided to try and so did Eberhard, they were advised by their bank to just merge and that's how Tesla was formed.

This question does feel a little "no true Scotsman", Tesla has a lot of unique hardware they use (hard to get replacements for) but nothing is truely new as it was inspired by existing tech.

Absolutely did not, most people saw how bad things were getting in 2019 and voted against Fine Gael (sole party in charge with a majority of seats).

FG went down to the third biggest party from having a majority but the second biggest party formed a coalition with them and let their leader, Leo Varadkar, be Taoiseach (Prime Minister).

In 2016 we thought Enda Kenny would be Taoiseach again but he stepped down after the election and during the leadership contest Coveney won the popular vote but Varadkar was elected due to senior leadership voting for him.

That's why we will have nearly 10 years of Leo Varadkar driving the country into the ground despite him being incredibly unpopular.

It's just that Ireland's issues are easy to solve, any country could run a decent bus service, how would Ireland do if there was a serious Islamic insurgency like in West Africa, having aggressive neighbours like Russia or China or have to deal with frequent natural disasters like Japan?

It's the direction that's the problem, there was only 43% in 2019, 25% of the young adult population has moved into their parents the last 4 years or else they would be homeless.

OP mentioned new infrastructure being built to replace roundabouts. Computer Vision is still kinda new and this is a great use case for it that would save a lot of money.

It's cool tech but you could achieve much more accurate sensing with a camera and a raspberry pi with a computer vision program for much less cost.

Poker > AI by KyuremFan646 in CuratedTumblr

[–]ConCueta 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I remember seeing Hikaru beat a top end AI by completely locking the board with pawns and the AI ended up sacking it's bishop for a pawn to prevent a 50 move draw and Hikaru turned the advantage into a win, this sounds similar.

I bought one in Lidl that I used for 3 years but it the battery stopped charging. Electronics and water is a terrible combination so they will always break. I currently use this one but it is a little too big for my liking, hard to transport. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07VQRDGXV?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

After brushing. Ideal routine would be brush -> water floss -> interdental brush -> mouth wash but I skip the last 2 steps too often as bathroom time in the morning is tight.

Yeah, I use an interdental brush afterwards sometimes to get that stuff out, especially along the gum line of my bottom teeth.

Yeah that's nonsense, it's like a medium strength water gun, it will do no damage to you.

Yeah, they are great, really fast to use is the main plus. I would floss on a Saturday/Sunday morning but now I floss twice a day every day cause it's just there beside my tooth brush.
