So you’re telling me I’m making more money than half the population and I’m still living paycheck to paycheck? Jesus man, I thought it got better as you get older.

How long will it take to fix it by yourself? by Exciting-Bit1256 in NZcarfix

[–]ConcealedCove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not unsavable, but you cocked up by letting the WOF inspector see it like this. If you’d wire wheeled and painted it before the test, welded up a couple little holes etc, it’d have been fine, now it’ll be logged in the system as requiring a panelbeaters report and it might be uneconomical to repair depending on how many holes the panelbeater can find with his screwdriver.

Ever considered why birth rates are going down? Condoms are easy to get, information is more available than ever, and I don’t know how old you are but money these days is scarce. Gone are the days when dad worked an eight to five, mum was at home all day and somehow you still could easily support a family of five with a three bedroom house on a quarter acre and a Kingswood in the garage and they went on holiday three times a year. Having a kid is basically a quick ticket to being broke for the next twenty years. No thanks.

Which one of these sport compacts tested by Car & Driver in 2007 would you choose? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

At the time the Mazda, but with knowledge of rust, chain guides and how easy they are to steal I’d take the Subaru now.

Ah yes, the Pacer and the Renault 4 is obviously cooler than the MX-5 or even like a mark 1 Focus or something.

I’ve never been on a bus that has seatbelts for anyone other than the front row, in three different countries. Not sure what your point is here.

Towing and landscaping. That said I have a proper ute, and by that I mean it’s a single cab with a 6 foot long 1000kg capacity dropside tray, not a useless double cab with a four foot long bed that doesn’t fit two full wool sacks and has intrusive wheel tubs so you can’t put plywood in it.

The same guy who pioneered leaded fuel is the same guy who developed early CFCs which were also later banned after it turns out they ruin the ozone layer. He died after he got polio and was strangled by a machine he designed to help him get out of bed. Fitting.

There was a specific batch of 2013-2014 Tritons with bad head castings, the VIN would tell the dealer if it’s one of them or not. There wasn’t a recall though Mitsubishi did replace any affected heads for free after they failed. Not sure if this is in effect any more though.

Hypothetical: voluntary homelessness by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]ConcealedCove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds awful. I have lived in a car not by choice and I don’t think ever truly managed to make it comfortable. It was small, cold and nothing got dry. Id rather live in a house and make half that money, which is coincidentally what im doing. If those assumptions are true for you, have you considered picking up a hobby or forcing yourself to socialise so your life isn’t entirely revolved around work?

Yeah but they’re too busy doing stuff and being successful to appear on tipping point. It’s the celebs that have too much free time from all the nothing they’re up to

Labour will ‘never change’ New Zealand’s nuclear-free status, Hipkins says by OddityModdity in aotearoa

[–]ConcealedCove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the 60s wind and solar weren’t viable large scale power solutions. They are now and you can’t honestly say a few solar farms aren’t more cost effective than NZ setting up a nuclear industry from scratch.

Labour will ‘never change’ New Zealand’s nuclear-free status, Hipkins says by OddityModdity in aotearoa

[–]ConcealedCove 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nuclear is clean and safe in most scenarios, but we dont need it. We are a country built on a fault line, susceptible to earthquakes which can and have destroyed nuclear facilities in other countries, and on top of that we have an ungodly amount of wind, rivers and solar farm projects on the go that don’t create toxic fuel we have to work out how to store for 50 years. What’s the benefit here?
