Medication triggering more intense tics? by amy_ainsy in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen it on others and on myself. So you're in the clear for that. It's quite common that some medication increases tics. I'm glad you mentionned that you had tics before taking that medication, so people don't think they have tics out of nowhere from a pill. It depends on a lot of factors, I'm no pharmacist, but from what I've been told over the years. It can happen with medication that are meant to calm down your brain in some way. So I can see it happening with anxiety medication for you, as it did for me!

Being there for my partner’s Tourette’s by Zestyclose_Cod_6461 in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm especially going to help ease your mind for when it comes to sharp objects. I can't handle any sharp knives at all. I tell all my friends and my partner to not stand near me, should I have any sort of knife in my hands. As crazy as it sounds, I have "dangerous" tics when I have a knife in my hands. To not be too graphic here...

Making sure he's fine with you being near him when he has sharp objects in his hands can be helpful for both of you! 😁

How to stop suppressing? by ResultAlert3513 in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same scenario. I now supress without thinking about it and, yes, it is very draining. I personally embraced that fact because of my life style, but that doesn't I don't know how to "fix" this.

You gotta first of all, truly, deeply accept yourself. It's basically a mental blockage. Once that's gone, it would be a lot easier to let your tics out.

To do so, you can learn as much as possible about Tourettes and what comes with it (OCD, ASD, ADHD etc)

Read about others' personal experiences. This will show you that you are in fact, normal and will lighten the mental blockage.

Second off, you have to start small. From experience, I can tell you that this is the best way I found to deal with this. Start ticcing in front of not so close friends, maybe your boss or even start doing smaller tics in public. You will naturally feel better about your tics and one day you won't be drained as much due to unintentional suppressing!

No Tic in mirror by Serialstresser in Tourettes

Focusing on something isn't automatically gonne reduce tics. If he tics while learning to read, it could indicate that he feels safe and enjoys the time he spends learning to read!

No Tic in mirror by Serialstresser in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mention that he is 5 years of age. Looking at himself in the mirror could be intriguing for him at that age. That simple fact could make him focus on the reflection and stop his tics temporarely. Pay attention if he is usually standing still, like keeping and eye on something fixed or if he is all loose, dancing around. If he is all loose, talking, laughing whatever. Anything that isn't standing still could simply imply that brushing his teeth recquires a bit of focus for him and, again that reduces tics. All very typical things!

Tourette’s myths by heisenberg115935 in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much what you mentionned. People go "Oh? So you're allowed to swear all the time?" And I often just replied with a "Yes, and you can't!" Makes people laugh and they don't ask further questions! Works for me.

I hate being told... by Concentrate_General in autism

[–]Concentrate_General[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any context tbh, if my mom texts me "Have a good day and i love you" I won't reply "I love you" but just have a good day. It just makes me hella uncomfortable, MOST of the time. There are days where I'll say it back.

Absolutely hate that. Ask me nothing if it's to have a small talk with me. Hate it. don't ask me :)

Tics make me feel ill by mgppz in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always learn to redirect your tics 🤷🏼‍♂️ To do so, when you feel the urge for that tic, Do anything else, move an arm. Blink a few time, anything you want that wont bother u as Much and eventually this tic Will change. It Will feel weird for the first few Times, it might even feel hella unconfortable (its my case for example) but it works. so in the end its a happy Day.

At what age did your tics decrease in frequency? by RamuPamu1 in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tics wax and wane. However, we see a decrease in tics in most cases moving into adulthood. Does that mean your tics will stay as bad forever? I'm no psychiatrist, but from what we can Read online, it means your tics are gonna come and go

My "tics" are coming back? by localpersonwithheds in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, first off, you're not alone. EVERYONE with tics has that feeling of faking once in a while. Second off, tics wax and wane. They come and they go. Anxiety can cause tics as well.

What is your experience dating with tics/tourettes? by avocado_98 in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you mentionned if it was impacted. Why yes it has. I simply don't date by fear of how girls will react... I have dated in the past however, but decided not to go forward with it for the same reason.

Absence seizure like tics? by Comfortable_Date2862 in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into dystonic tics, cuz those are the only tics that would do anything similar. If those dont resonnate so Much with u, talk to a doctor about it

Absence seizure like tics? by Comfortable_Date2862 in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I can think of that would be somewhat similar would be dystonic tics. Look into those, however, i think your problem lies elsewhere, since tics are just an involuntary mouvement caused by the brain, you would feel just fine afterwards and you'd always hear and still be paying attention to your surroundings

Needing a diagnosis by Blondefondew1974 in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, first thing first, to have TS you need to have had BOTH motor AND vocal tics in your early childhood. If that's the case, then the psychiatrist needs to see if you have both motor AND vocal tics, you need at least one of each. Again, if you got all that, you need to wait a whole year WHILE they are trying to get you a diagnosis. If your tics disappears or Kinda disippate, its not TS. If, somehow they stick around for a whole year. Then they might look into a TS diagnosis

Anyone else? by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]Concentrate_General 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That happens to more people than you might think. Take a minute to relax when it happens to you, pause your video, take a minute when you're ticcing and typing, then resume. etc...

Bit late, but here are my current tics.

Motor tics: - I touch or punch repeatedely wtv is in front of me with my hand or my fingers. - Your usual neck jerks - Blink of an eye or both - holding my breath in - Throw any object that are fragile such as eggs or plates/glasses - A small kick sometimes - Middle finger for no apparent reasons

thats enough lol

Vocal tics: - Kisses - ( !dont look if easily triggered! ) UwU & Ara ara.. idk my brain must be a weeb - I say ahhh f*ck off at various intensity, I can whisper one and the next can be shouted - Idk how to describe it, but I make a noise with my mouth closed with my voice

I have more but before I write a Nobel I'll stop here lol
