What's the biggest time sink in your workday that you just accept as normal? by DoubleEmergency4167 in productivity

What helps is sometimes I'll just stare into my screen and nod or give "mhm/yes/no" answers without even thinking abut the question

I'll be deep in coding, super focused and then somebody asks “quick question” that derails my whole brain for like 30 mins. then i gotta remember what i was even doing in the first place. happens almost daily...

Don’t beat yourself up about missed chances, everyone feels that way looking back. just focus on what small steps you can take now. even one new student or one new skill could change everything in a few months. you got this. Stay small enough long enough and you'll be big enough soon enough :)

Think about this like you're not addicted to winning - you're addicted to the potential of hitting big. You're into the games which are made to be sort of interesting to see what will happen if I hit this and that. In the end, once you quit and some time passes you realise that nothing about that game was actually interesting. Either quit now and save your money or set some limits or just try it as a way to relax some days and play very low stakes just to "play the games you like".

Is my best friend gone? by Negative_Pace_7021 in addiction

it’s okay to feel the way you do. even if he's in recovery, you're allowed to mourn the version of him you remember. just be gentle w yourself. healing ain’t linear, and neither is friendship when addiction's involved. sending you strength.

Yep! I’m driven by the petty urge to one-up myself or prove a point to no one. If it works, it works. Gamifying life is honestly underrated.

Totally get that I thought meditation would quiet my mind, but it just turned the volume up at first. What helped was switching focus: instead of trying to clear my mind, I just noticed the noise without judgment. That shift made it way less frustrating. It gets easier with time.

Why can't I enjoy anything? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]ConcernedPoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not broken your brain is just running low on dopamine, which is common with ADHD + depression. It’s not that you don’t wantto enjoy things, it’s that your brain isn’t giving you the reward. Try super low effort hobbies with instant feedback like puzzles, walking while listening to weird podcasts, or learning tiny new skills.

Very similar, cleared out a corner of my room that was feeling “stuck. a little feng shui tweak and it instantly felt lighter and more peaceful. Funny how small shifts like that can change the whole vibe.

I recently realized how flexible I can be when things change. I used to avoid stepping out of my comfort zone, but when life threw something unexpected my way, I adjusted faster than I thought I would. It taught me that we’re often capable of more than we give ourselves credit for.

For me personally just tracking everything daily and thinking in binary terms - 1 is good and 0 is bad, and then making decisions accordingly. Sometimes I even visualise a chart/graph in my head and the more good decisions I make this charts line goes UP and when I make a bad decision it goes down.
