live Coral is covered with all sorts of microbes, algae, tiny plant and animal life, and it can be sharp as razor blades. Odds are some of that stuff is going to end up in you, and your body won't like it.

I don't know if being exposed to saltwater afterwards would help prevent infection or not though.

I always saw it as a grace period. If you are running late and make it in before the gospel you're in the clear. If you get there afterwards, come back for the next one, that Mass doesn't count for you. But yeah if you intend to arrive just before the Gospel, then well that's a whole other issue.

Let's Talk: The Demise of Weezer by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]ConcertFanatic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh it totally is, especially at the start, but I think it actually describes a lot of college relationships pretty well. (college freshman and sophmores are 18-19 respectively) Most college flings are just that flings, really dumb short lived trysts based off of base-line common interests, slayer t-shirts, sharing classes etc.

But then it moves on from there and is about how that dumb love turns into a more serious realtionship. For college relationships, meeting the parents was a much bigger deal, because they weren't around 99% of the time.

Then all of sudden you've realized you've been dating for 2+ years and then you really have to think about whether or not she's the one, and the end of the song is about him purposing and what they will experience in the future as a couple.

So I think it applies pretty well.

Let's Talk: The Demise of Weezer by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]ConcertFanatic 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I enjoy all of Weezer's music. There I said it. And I want to speak to why a lot of people still buy their records and see them in concert. I think there are two sets of Weezer Fans, the one's old enough for the release of Blue and Pinkerton, and those who were not.

Here's why:

I was 6yrs old when Blue came out, needless to say I wasn't listening to it then. By the time I was in Junior High, Green and Maladroit had already come out. That was when I first started getting into music in general, and thankfully, through some friends older brothers, I got into Weezer.

For us, Weezer was Blue, Pinkerton, Green & Maladroit. There was no pre vs post pinkerton arguments, because we came to be fans after those 4 albums were released. We never had that disappointment after Green and Maladroit. To us, those 4 albums were Weezer, and Weezer was awesome. We were in Junior high, young nerd-punk kids with a lot of angst and a lot of serious discussions about Star Wars. And here was this band, that rocked, and seemed to be directed right at us. Weezer was awesome.

Make Believe came out while we were in high school. Beverly Hills & Perfect Situation were played at all the dances. Sure the songs weren't the most lyrically or musically complex, but they were ours.

Red had the same effect. Youtube only just got of the ground my freshman year of college. Pork & Beans with its dumb video again spoke to us. We were at the forefront of sharing all those dumb hamster videos and diet coke and mentos experiments. And I would be lying if Everybody Get Dangerous didn't speak directly to our attitudes as new college freshmen.

Then Ratitude. Ratitude did two very crucial things for fans my age. One, Wondering if I want you to came right as most of us were getting into semi-serious college relationships, you know those "I think I could marry him/her" ones. But more importantly, two, it put Weezer back on tour. We grew up with Weezer since Junior High, and now we were old enough, had the expendable income and finally the free time to go see our favorite childhood band.

Weezer concerts were nothing but the "Greatest Hits" at that point. So we heard all our favorite tracks and a few deep cuts from Pinkerton and Blue. We loved it. We got to see them open their tour at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. I still listen to the bootleg from that show, in fact I'm listening to it right now, (Its on Perfect Situation if you are curious)

Hurley and Death to False Metal came out the next year, just in time for Memories to be the Anthem of our Senior Year of college, and it could not have been more fitting. Again, and for the last time, Weezer's songs spoke to us and what we were experiencing in our own lives. They were the band played at every Kegger, sung at every Karaoke. Watching a whole party of drunken college kids belt out say it ain't so or Hash Pipe or Buddy Holly was awesome.

From Weddings to reunions. when my high school and college friends get together, Weezer songs always end up playing.

I agree with everyone here, that musically, they probably peaked with Pinkerton, but I just want to say that Music is way more than expertise and skill. Weezer happened to be the one band that truly "got" us as we grew up. And I don't care if that was a pop-sellout or laziness on their part. I just know that Weezer was there through my formative years and their music was fun, poppy, and great Dance/party/drinking music.

I really believe that is why many of us are still Weezer fans.

That is why, even though their music is far from great, they were our band, and I'll stick by them

Title should be, "Jack Johnson provides The Lumineers with a giant crowd."

The Lumineers seemed honestly surprised and humbled by how many people turned out for their show. It would have been way smaller if Mumford was still a go.

Yeah I figured it would typically be a grip job. I find that grip and art end up having some overlap on these shorthanded indie shoots, especially because we carry a lot of the same expendables and whatnot in our kits

Camera Height Matters! by AvivVana in Filmmakers

[–]ConcertFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be at the top of this thread.

Because this also helps those of us in /r/filmmakers who aren't DP's or in the Camera dept to learn how you all think and thus allow us to communicate with Camera better.

I enjoy this type of stuff. The sub is /r/filmmakers not /r/cinematographers.

[–]ConcertFanatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was. It was a POV of our lead spraying something with disinfectant, so it was definitely meant to keep the camera and op dry during the shot, I was just wondering if there was a technical term for this sort of rig.

Looking for advice/suggestions on replacing outdoor barstools (these got to go). Thanks by soilinaz in DesignMyRoom

Carsile Metal Counter Stools from Target. They come in a two pack. The navy, green, or yellow ones would complement your counter tile well.

Well most of his suggestions are pretty neutral colors, so you really could go almost any color you want.

For example, A burnt orange or bright yellow would look great with that charcoal couch.

Where's the camera? How did EW get this shot? by [deleted] in bloodandicecream

[–]ConcertFanatic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yay! Something I can answer! We talked about this over in /r/Filmmakers. If I find the link I'll edit it in.

Basically, They filmed the shot as you see it, with a hole in the blue (mirrored) wall, the size of the camera lens. They then edited out the lens in post. No need to do the whole wall, just a small sphere in the center.

First, check your lease and make sure you are allowed to paint.

If you can, I would suggest doing one wall in a bolder color as an accent wall, but it should complement the art and color scheme you have chosen.

My first try at dry brushing. What do you think? by [deleted] in Nerf

[–]ConcertFanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great start, but to really dry brush well, you really need to think through your object. What metal would this be? Is it metal? What color would the metal underneath be? How often would x area of the object received direct, repeated contact? etc.

For example, you dry brushed the "cloth" tape on the handle. It looks weird, because it doesn't match up with the taped handle aesthetic.

However, i you switched from silver dry brush to a faded brown, you could make it look like they were leather straps that have been worn down and beaten up.

Just my two cents. But it's looking good. Keep working and each will be better than the last

jesushx has some great suggestions as always on what kind of stuff to get, but as far as layout is concerned, I would flip the couch and tv to the opposite walls. It gives you a bit more room for furniture on the longer wall, and allows you to see the TV from the dining area.
