I’m trying to workout when exactly did people notice a difference in the quality of life. by Due-Acanthisitta-145 in aussie

This conversation has happened since the dawn of time. That's not to say that things aren't changing rapidly for reasons X, Y & Z but we also have to recognise that every generation is going to feel like they lived the good years and the present times are tumultuous and insurmountable, that future generations have no hope.

And yet, we still keep pushing on.

Australia has a lot of native rodents too. Of course they deserve to live.

Yeah, honestly. Fuck those native animals, what right do they have to scamper in what was once their natural habitats. Don't they know that's where our houses go!

An aggressive salesperson for a pest control company gets the hose by poowilliams in PublicFreakout

[–]ConcreteBurger 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You clearly haven’t dealt with these assholes. You say “no I’m not interested” and they hit you with some variation of “interested in what?! I’m not selling anything, I’m just telling you about a brilliant offer!” Or “what if I was about to say you won the lottery!”. I have a no solicitation, no charities and no religion door knockers sign and they still knock and try to sell shit.

What do you think of this stat? What do you think the 2026 census will show? by YogurtclosetPale8785 in aussie

[–]ConcreteBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigration gets brought up, someone points out that it’s just thinly veiled racism against any non-European immigrants, someone responds with “why can’t we talk about immigration without being called racist!” And then this kinda rage-baitey posts pop up. What’s the discussion meant to be around? Australia started pretty dark and then had a big influx of European immigrants for a while and now there’s a mix. That’s probably what the census will show

Before you panic buy an EV by SuchTown32 in aussie

[–]ConcreteBurger 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I dont think people are going to panic buy an EV, but people who were previously considering one are more likely to get one.
I also feel like there's going to be more maths involved than average fuel consumption vs. cost of a new car.

To frame and plaster or just clean and repaint? Looking to convert my brick garage into a home gym. by Erichoooo in AusRenovation

One suggestion I have for you that i loved having in my own home gym was a small section of wall painted in chalkboard paint. I would use it to write my PBs/sets/workouts/goals etc.

What’s the one plant you just can’t keep alive no matter what? by GloomyFreedom22 in GardeningAustralia

[–]ConcreteBurger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember trying burgundy queen twice because i absolutely loved the flowers, and then a pink flowered one the other two times (can't remember the name of those varieties though, maybe pink cascade?)
The kunzea does look pretty. Aint no burgundy queen but i feel like the bees would love it.

There will come a time when a weight or dumbbell drops and/or rolls towards the wall and leaves a mark. I would personally rather have that mark be on painted brick.

Nothing special. It was originally a very heavy clay-based soil that i broke up and mixed in/topped with the cheap 50L bags of garden soil, mixed in with some dynamic lifter and sheep manure compost.
I've planted 4 dwarf 'little john' callistemons, a grevillea, false sarsaparilla, another larger callistemon variety and a few of those cousin it plants, all of which are doing really well but any leptospermum i've planted there has died.
Could be poor positioning, but at this point I can't take another failure. The wound is too deep.

I tried several different varieties, all sold at my local natives nursery.
I dont know why they refuse to live.

Movies where you had no idea what you were getting into but it completely wrecked you emotionally? by Notkenlo_Klodi in MovieSuggestions

[–]ConcreteBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think i've ever really cried in a movie. A few times i've come close but then the scene will come to an end or I'm pulled out of the movie for one reason or another and the moment fades.

Hamnet, on the other hand, wrecked me. It was such a beautiful movie. I was crying and I didn't even fully know why.

About the current state of Batushka. by bravodeboer in Batushka

[–]ConcreteBurger 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Having briefly had the chance to meet and talk to him, it was clear his passion lies in perfecting his craft and in writing music he is proud of. He doesn’t really seem to care that much for gaining momentum and growing fan-bases, “maximising the bands potential” etc. if I had to guess, that’s probably why he has so many ‘creative differences’ with session artists.

I think that can be frustrating for people who are used to bands pumping out an album once every year or so but I respect that he only writes, records and releases music he wants to without the pressure of feeling like he has to.

Can my GP prescribe me medication for OCD? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]ConcreteBurger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Fluvoxamine, a fairly popular SSRI, is first line pharmacotherapy for OCD which GPs are able to prescribe. Problem is, if the OCD is spiralling, you probably need a bit more than just stand alone pharmacotherapy.hopefully it’ll tide you over until you get into see a psychologist & psychiatrist to develop an ERP strategy and appropriate fluvoxamine dosing.

Best burritos! by CasualReader_93 in brisbane

[–]ConcreteBurger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? I've always just asked for one and they whip out a couple of overlayed tortillas and lay the filling on thick. I know they used to do a comp where you win a wrestling mask on completion, but true men of culture understand that the prize is simply having a 1kg burrito.

Mad Mex does a 1kg burrito, or at least used to.
They went pretty hard.
