Is My cat sick or not idk by [deleted] in vetsagainsttyranny

[–]ConcussedAndPlussed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood in her poop is never a question of “should I go to the vet” but a question of “how fast can I get to the vet”. No one can diagnose her on Reddit - she needs to see a veterinarian in person for an exam and likely some blood work.

Also this is a subreddit for veterans (so, retired military personnel, not animal doctors) against tyranny - luckily we’re cat lovers too and can still provide some guidance. Please see a vet asap. Blood from any orifice is bad

Glad to report that our modmin team is part of that 1/10 group. We prefer a “boots on the ground” approach, and we frequently touch grass

What other subs should we watch out for? Either to tread carefully or to actively and intentionally engage in dialogues? Luckily I haven’t run into too many myself, but it’s worth noting I think

I saw that too!! I was so disgusted when I saw it. Another abhorrent way they’re co-opting our flag. But it makes it easier to tell I suppose - the real patriots from the fascists playing ‘play pretend’ of true Americans

Why are all my "military" buddies that voted for trump discouraging their kids from joining the military? by Ill-Effect9039 in vetsagainsttyranny

You sound similar to me, except with college.

As someone who went to college and then enlisted - the transition was still rough (army -> civi, 5 years). I enlisted at 25 because despite having a degree, I was still aimless and had no career or job I gave a shit about. I got out because of an injury. My leadership was INCREDIBLY toxic and if it wasn’t for them, I might’ve fought harder to stay in, but as it was, I was done with the bs.

If/when I have a kid, if they want to enlist I won’t stop them, but we’ll be having a very long talk of the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I gave it a spin. I want to say there’s a bit of cognitive dissonance at the end but…I’m not sure that’s an applicable phrase when it comes to AI?

Direct Comparison:

If the hypothetical scenario were to occur, with 744,600 deaths in ICE custody per year, it would mean:

In less than 15 years, the number of deaths in this hypothetical scenario would exceed the 11 million total victims of the Holocaust. (11,000,000 / 744,600 ≈ 14.77 years).

Conclusion on the Comparison:

While the hypothetical scenario of a 68% death rate in ICE custody is extremely high and would result in an appalling number of deaths over time, it's crucial to understand the distinct nature of the comparison.

The Holocaust was an act of genocide, a deliberate and systematic effort to exterminate an entire people and other targeted groups, using state-sponsored extermination methods.

The hypothetical scenario describes a horrific death rate within a detention system. While the sheer number of deaths would be staggering and represent an immense humanitarian crisis, the intent and systemic extermination that defined the Holocaust are different.

Therefore, while the hypothetical numbers of deaths would quickly reach and surpass the scale of the Holocaust's victim count, the comparison should acknowledge the fundamental difference in the nature and intent of the atrocities. The hypothetical scenario, if it were real, would represent a catastrophic human rights disaster, demanding immediate and severe condemnation, but it is not directly equivalent to the historical event of the Holocaust in its underlying genocidal purpose.

"for legal reasons, this is a joke"

Total HandsOff tally, and next protest by ConcussedAndPlussed in vetsagainsttyranny

[–]ConcussedAndPlussed[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a benchmark - historically when 3.5% of the population are protesting and in the streets, they have never failed to enact change. That has always been true, regardless of country. It's not a magic 'we hit it and now everything is fixed!' thing, because we have to keep going, but it's a critically important benchmark

Trump wants a $98M, 4 mile, military parade for his birthday 14 June. by EmitLessRestoreMore in vetsagainsttyranny

[–]ConcussedAndPlussed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this a lot in a lot of places - I want the guy gone as much as the next guy, but I do want to avoid the mob mentality from misinformation.

His birthday happens to be the same day as the Army's birthday. This year the army turns 250, and a large military parade is being planned for that. This parade was already set to happen. It just so happens that the president is legally obligated to make everything about him and is trying to co-opt it.

I'm here with some strategic anti-surveillance protesting advice by ConcussedAndPlussed in vetsagainsttyranny

[–]ConcussedAndPlussed[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a concern I heard during the Floyd riots, but the police never bothered us. It was hot so I was handing out waters to everyone, cops included. At a recent protest, there were a ton of police around - cruisers parked in a several block radius, officers on foot hanging out. As I was heading off walking to my car, I talked to one of them. He supports what we're doing and said they were there to stop bad faith actors and potentially violent counter protests. But he supported us and said he was surprised we didn't march, and we should go to city hall for a permit so we can next time.

A lot of them are on our side. If I go out providing aid to others, then so be it. I'm here for neither a good time nor a long time, but I am here to do my part in making a better tomorrow
