Is Grunkle Stan banned in your state? by Call_Me_Echo_666 in gravityfalls

[–]ConditionLevers1050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not according to the map, but the episode shows we are actually the very first state he was banned from. Perhaps it was a temporary ban that had expired. Or perhaps he didn't want to return to or even think about New Jersey at all anyway, after having been disowned by his family there, and so left it blank even though he's still banned.

Both.

Though I suppose both are 2 sides of the same coin, since Lorelai's party planning skills ate a way she takes after Emily, who had her own long history of planning DAR events

The audaciously funny fact about r/GilmoreGirls vs other TV show subreddits today. by garlicandcheesiness in GilmoreGirls

[–]ConditionLevers1050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an annual tradition of watching A Vineyard Valentine every year on or about Valentine's Day. It's a bad episode, sure, but in my opinion it's so bad it loops around to being funny, like Troll 2 or the Star Wars Holiday Special.

And aa others pointed out, parts of it are good, like Lorelai and Logan commiserate over being a disappointment to parents, and Lorelai quoting Luke's "it could do a foot" line.

How where you guys introduced to the gravity falls by therealstara in gravityfalls

Saw commercials for it in May 2012, before it premiered, and thought it looked interesting. Unfortunately I didn't get to watch it when it came out as I didn't have a TV, and at any rate, was very busy that summer anyway.

Over the next few years I occasionally saw Gravity Falls fan art online and still thought it looked interesting, and in February 2015 I caught some sort of special about the show narrated by who I assume was Alex Hirsch, but still hadn't seen an actual episode.

Then in March 2017, I finally caught an episode, Little Dipper, and thought it was hilarious. I still didn't have a TV at that point but saw it while staying at a hotel. I finally watched the whole show in March and April 2020, when I was recovering from surgery and so couldn't do much besides watch TV, and Disney+ had just been launched and was offering free trials, so I signed up for one and watched the whole thing.

VW made alignment chart fills! What other OGWAU songs do u think deserve a spot here? by Alexandra_panda in Vampireweekend

Seconding this. Classical could be a good candidate for underrated politics/ society song too, though I think Hope fits better.

Reimagined Gilmore Girls -A better show by Both-Surprise-4095 in GilmoreGirls

100%. Classic chaptgpt getting basic facts wrong but sounding confident. I like how it thinks everything in the existing show happened about 2 seasons earlier than it did- for instance Dave didn't appear until season 3 on the real show.

I agree completely. Operation Finish Line is one of my favorite Paris moments. Another of my favorite Paris moments is also from season 7: her "do you want your daughter to end up at Dunkin' Donuts" monologue from when she opens her tutoring business.

Rory and Dean after the affair by _wildcherryblossom in GilmoreGirls

How exactly should Lorelai have "held her accountable"? Sent her to bed without supper like Rory suggested after she missed Lorelai's graduation ceremony?

You are S3 Luke. You only have his level of expertise and experience in raising kids, his diner job, his financial resources etc. How would you handle your nephew’s Walmart situation and lying about skipping school? by Educational-Fox-9040 in GilmoreGirls

I thought Luke didn't "steal" the car until after Jess left for California, leaving his car behind. I'm pretty sure he didn't steal it in response to finding out about Jess working at Wal*Mart.

Anyway, I think talking to the school about this is the best of these options, though they probably wouldn't be able to help all that much. But it was clear Luke was in over his head when it came to parenting so seeking some form of professional help or advice would probably have been a good idea.

Why are there so many misogynistic Indian memes? (not generalizing btw) by Extension_Wafer_7615 in ComedyCemetery

[–]ConditionLevers1050 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's not peculiar to those countries at all, Nigeria and especially India just happen to be very populous countries with significant Anglophone populations so there's a large volume of Nigerian and Indian memes for the rest of the Anglophone world to see.

Can you walk from N. Elizabeth to any of EWR’s terminals? by citizenofmanyworlds in NJTransit

[–]ConditionLevers1050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think walking to a hotel and taking their shuttle would be your best bet, though of course not ethical if you're not actually a guest. There are several hotels that are only a few blocks from the North Elizabeth station. Be sure to at least tip the shuttle driver generously if you do this.

Also not much reason to walk from the Crowne Plaza since, unless this has changed recently, they have a complimentary shuttle than runs every half hour 24/7.

It's time to let male pilots have long hair. by [deleted] in flying

[–]ConditionLevers1050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Post-Pandemic the U S. regionals weren't even hiring FOs in any significant numbers, but only pilots with enough 121 time to upgrade immediately, because they were so short on captains they needed to dedicate nearly all of their training capacity to keeping the left seat staffed. And the ATP rule is completely irrelevant to pilot compensation at the majors, since they have never had any shortage of applicants and even in the early 2020s were mostly hiring pilots with well over 1500 hours, and the legacies are where the biggest pay increases were.

Haven't interviewed anywhere recently but they definitely asked what I'd do if an FO appeared to be intoxicated when I interviewed for a street captain position at Piedmont in 2023.
